Looking for Dr. Gagner? Good luck!

Dr. Gagner is overextended and overbooked. I had my surgery with him, and my husband was supposed to have his (non-bariatric) surgery with Dr. Gagner on Friday, but it was cancelled at the last minute because the surgeries Dr. Gagner performed earlier in the day ended up being more complex than he anticipated. This was unfortunate since my husband waited seven hours for his surgery to start (fasting all the while, which makes his condition exponentially worse), only to be told at the last minute that it would not be performed at all. Dr. Gagner apologized and later explained that he was "too tired" at the end of the day, and didn't feel he would be "in top shape" to perform the delicate surgery. He said he will next be available in Montreal the first week of April, and gave my husband the option of traveling to Doha, Qatar (where Dr. Gagner will be for the next few weeks) if he wanted it done sooner.

My impression is that Dr. Gagner schedules his surgeries for the few days each month he will be in Montreal, and those can fall through if the operating facility he has hired for the day can't come up with the requisite staff.  The rest of the month he is traveling, and when he is in town, he seems to book too many surgeries for a single day. The day Dr. Gagner did my own surgery, I ended up with a sleeve instead of the whole DS, and I got the distinct impression at the time that one of the reasons he didn't do the instestinal portion was because he'd had two complex patients before me, it was the end of the day and he was exhausted.

I'm not sure he realizes the impact this has on his patients, especially those who have to travel some distance to get to him. We only came from Ottawa, but with hotel, transportation and miscellaneous expenses, it cost us $1500 to spend five days in Montreal and wait for a surgery that never happened. (We had to come two days early because my husband had to have blood work and an ECG done at the hospital).

I'm sorry. It sounds like you and your husband got screwed over too!! He may be a great surgeon, but I will never trust him! He is too slippery!

Have you checked with Ungson? dsfacts.com

I'm sorry. I would be very upset as well. But I wonder if this is all so rushed.

Sounds like you have been through a lot! I initially thought about Dr. Gagner as well, but decided on Dr. Stewart for my revision. If you decide on Dr. Stewart, you will not be disappointed. He is professional and an excellent surgeon! Their office is very involved with you for follow-up care as well. Keep us posted on whatever you decide.

Hey, I tried to add you as a friend but couldn't.  When you are recovered from your surgery, please add me and would enjoy staying in touch with a fellow patient of Dr. Stewart!  Hope you are doing well.

That is horrid ! I would go to Dr Ungson at this point in time, you could use your air credit and probably save a few dollars in the long run and he is a vetted DS Doc.

I had already talked to Dr. Ungson and he said he couldn't do my revision! Dr. Stewart did an endoscopy on Friday so he could see personally, what he was revising. None of the out of country docs even mentioned that! Only mentioned the money!
