DS and birth control pills

I've got several years to go until I hit 35 ;)  In fact, if I decide to have a kid at all, I won't put it off beyond 30. Like I said, I'm pretty well informed. That still leaves me a couple of years. I'm not worrying about it.

The difference between our thinking is that I see the other far more risky behaviours people typically take on during a day that could risk their lives and consider the risk of an IUD as slight in comparison to those risks. I'm about fearing that which is worth fearing, and maxmizing my decisions. It's why I'm having the DS (the only WLS I would consider for myself because of its superior results for my comorbids and long-term results). I know my risk of severe complication or death is somewhere around 1-2/100. However, I know my risks of an early death from obesity or complications are much, much higher. Also, why would I accept the surgical risk and not the 1/1000 of my IUD? Wouldn't I be even sorrier if I never woke up from surgery? Or died of a pulmonary embolism? Or sepsis from a leak? Yet none of this is stopping me.

Now, if my only concern in life was having a child I might feel differently, but that's not my primary concern. Like I said, the people you deal with every day feel very differently about this. You never have to see the majority of people who have their IUD, get it removed, and get pregnant, all without problems because it's not the nature of your work. Do you think it has probably biased your opinion a little?

This has been an intelligent and civil debate, thank you. That's something that people are too often not capable of on message boards. It's time for me to hit the hay. Good night.

I can only keep repeating - if you have even seen ONE person who is unable to have children beause of an IUD,  it's enough to warn people off of them. But you are too young to understand the urgency of wanting to have children,  and you are too young to understand what it's like to possibly be unable to have children and have it overwhelm every part of your life and being.  I hope you never get there.
