Be kind to your liver already being strained by the rapid weight loss and wait a year before adding the additional stress of liquor.
I have various reactions to things. What affects one person doesn't necessarily affect me the same way. Whole milk does horrible things to me, but I have no problem at all with cheese and yogurts. You just learn as you go, and by all means, don't try anything new hours before you're going to be in a crowd.

Hi Valerie,
I am almost 6 yrs post DS. Didnt drink much before and 4 years after. I did start drinking too much red wine for awhile but have recently quit that. By too much I mean a couple bottles/week. It was curious to me how others bodies handled alcohol. One of my sisters also had DS and she was never a "drinker" only drank light and socially and started drinking too much after DS. But that was a few years ago and she is back on track.
I have been off track with my vitamins and eating habits...so much so that I gained weight but it is starting to come off now. Lost 4 lbs yesterday by just changing back to what I am supposed to be eating. I am sure just correcting my course will change things back.
I know I sound like a newbie, but I had been off track so long, I needed the reminders and get back on track. I am on my way! Thank goodness.

Oh I see. We have to get your surgery date on your profile so it shows on your posts.
As for drinking, I'm a terrible lightweight. I drink rarely, but enjoy it now and then. I'm a bit of a control freak and hate losing control.

2 bottles of wine is 8-10 glasses, depending on how you pour. That's not a lot in one week. That's for example one glass of wine every day during the weekdays, and two on a weekend day. That's quite moderate. That's what I drink, more or less. I usually have a glass of wine with dinner. I don't have any issues with it of any kind. The key to keeping weight off is a balance that is different for each of us. I don't eat sweets. I limit my simple carbs. But each of us absorbs at different rates, and it changes over time...you have to find the balance that works for you and your system. But don't blame a moderate amount of wine for your weight gain...it is a contributor, but it is not the only way you are absorbing excess calories. Get back to eating basics - at least 100g of protein every day, then vegetables, then complex carb. Start by sticking to that and see how it goes, and assuming you get to a stable weight you are satisfied with, add some alcohol without changing anyting else and see how it goes. You have to find the amounts of everything - alcohol included - that work for you.
You are right. There are days when I would have more wine than others and then days I didn't have any for several days. Avg of 2 bottles per week. I went and looked up how many carbs are in a glass of wine....well, only 3.5 gms per glass. LOL.........You are right....it wasn't the wine. It was the carbs. I was concerned about having a problem since I used to never drink, well maybe 3 drinks a year. But if I can do days without it, and then drink less than 2 glasses...I guess it isn't really a problem. Ha...
