What is going on over here?

I haven't been on the boards here at OH for the last couple of weeks thanks to work and holiday stress. I am lurking at work today and I was shocked to see all the ship jumping.

I cross post here and on the VSG boards because I am gearing up to revise my surgery.

What the heck happened here?

I did some reading and found they banned a frequent poster on the DS board. I have to be honest, I am so glad she is gone as her acid posts kept me away from some valuable information here. So I am not sorry about that happening. But what is up with the whole moderator free enviornment flipping the script and going Nazi?

Thanks for the input :)

Have you had the chance to see that Brad Pitt movie "Fight Club"?  The first rule of Fight Club is that you dont talk about Fight Club.  It can be said based on what Ive seen the past week here that  the same thing can probably be said about the topic you speak of.

Im honestly to a point anymore where I am uncertain whats okay to talk about and what isnt okay to talk about.  Is this the thing you were refering to at the end of your post?

I think you asked and answered your own question.  The moderators here won't let us talk about what is happening but you are allowed to read our signature lines.

Happy Holidays!  And good luck with your revision!

I'll be staying right here.

I left - thanks to a lot of bullying not only as a pre-op, but also when I was in a really tough spot, emotionally speaking, and needed support.  Now I know why my brain's been on an emotional rollercoaster.

PTH has been abnormally high in my past two 6 month labs (I'm hypermalabsoptive, 75 cm CC, hence twice a year for me)  without the accompanying calcium, phosporous and  Vit D red flags. GP is looking for one or more parathyroid tumors.  I have all the symptoms, intractable insomnia, memory issues, irritability,  the whole nine yards!

I had a parathyroid scan Friday, will be having a bone scan Wednesday.  The only bone pain has been in my right arm humerus and radius, but that's gone now.  I've been doing double duty on the Cal-Mag and D,  and I hope that's all it is...that I just need to take more. If it turns out I have to have surgery, I'll be shopping for a laparoscopic specialist, since the alternative is a 6 to 8 inch scar on my throat, and I don't scar well. Hyperpigmentaton and sometimes keloids.  They had to shoot up my DS scar with cortisone to get it to flatten out. I'm told even with lap surgery, if my vocal nerve is damaged, I'll be left without the ability to speak.

If you're still on this board...thanks to those of you who cared enough to reach out and help, which is really what OH is all about.

How much dry D are you taking every day, in addition to the cal/mag/d  ??

You need to see an endocrinologist...do not rely on your GP for this set of issues.

How are your iron levels - hemagolobin,  ferritin,  TIBC,  hematocrit?

Your symptoms are also those of anemia.

FYI my cc is also 75cm,  I'm almost 12 years post-op.  I get my labs done 3-4 times a year,  not twice a year.

new york-

Ruling out is necessary before I'm off to the endo- If there's no tumor - no reason to cut.
Then we start looking for another reason.

I see my doc tomorrow, who teaches at Notre Dame and IU School of Medicine, and has had me talk to several of her students about the DS. She is one of the most respected doctors in town.(And the best we've had here in a LONG time!) Bone scan is tomorrow, she has her own machine in her office. Hemoglobin, ferretin, TIBC and hematocrit are all OK. It's the PTH that's out of whack, and that's why she's looking for a tumor.

By the way, my dcotor *listens* to me. She knows I'm not a complete dummy, and I do understand many things medical. Heck, I've even made my own diagnoses, and have been right - if she disagreed, she'd explain why. We work *together*, not in spite of each other!

My last complete set of labs were perfect, except for the PTH and a moderate zinc deficiency, which I've added separately, until I know more about why my chemistry's screwed up. High calcium levels are often the telltale sign of PTH disease, but my levels, last labs, were normal, which could also mean that I'm deficient, and the tumor is spiking up the levels. I would have no reason to be deficient in calcium, and that's what kicks the parathyroid into gear - to pull calcium from your bones!

Here's what works for me: some of you may be on different levels. I adjust according to lab results. The K in the blood tests is K1 that they test for, and I've had no issues. If anybody knows differently, please let me know. I do my own B12 shots, based on medical advice, of course. Only your doctor/surgeon can tell you what's right for you.

You need more Dry D.  A lot more.  Lots of people around here (myself included) take 50,000 IU every day.  That is very likely contributing to your PTH problem.  Of course there is reason for  you to be calcium deficient - you don't absorb it!!

If I were you I would increase the dry D to 50,000 IU every day.  I don't give a damn where your doctor went to school or where he/she teaches....even the best DS surgeons don't know about post-op long term supplementation.  If you don't have a parathyroid tumor then the reason your PTH is high is because you are leeching calcium...which means you are not absorbing enough calcium.  Do you now understand that ???

I take a lot of cal-mag-d every day PLUS 50,000 IU of dry D daily and my PTH is norml but still on the high side of normal.

So, you don't figure in what you get from dietary sources( milk)?  Granted, we only get half of what normies do...but I do figure that in, which also accounts for a lot of my protein intake, too.

I have never let go of my shakes completely.  I wouldn't get anywhere near enough protein or calcium from food and supplements alone!
