weight gain

At the moment, I'm in "thyroid mode," since I've just discovered I have a problem with Reverse T3 and I'm hypothyroid, even though I'm on medication (Armour).

So I naturally have to ask, is your thyroid ok? Are you experiencing low thyroid symptoms and is your body temperature consistently low? I posted something about this earlier, but in case you didn't see my post, it seems that when we cut calories for any reason our absorption of T3 (the biologically active thyroid hormone) is diminished. This seems to be the reason why, after dieting and after we resume normal eating habits, we regain lost weight so easily.

I think the possibility that your thyroid function is low is at least worth considering.

Hope this helps,

Hey Hon,
It sounds like you need to prioritise yourself here....Just because your husband likes meat & potatoes, pasta etc doesn't mean that you have to have them on the menu/eat them every night .
My man is addicted to mashed potatoes, rice and pasta...he probably has it every night but the difference is he knows it has to be accompanied my something that I can eat without the carbs....we sit down and make a menu for the coming week and then there is no daily decisions to make on food.
Have the extra meaty spaghetti sauce with dreamfields or just on its own with a ton of shredded italian cheese or some spaghetti squash.
Make a big pot of chilli and have it with sour cream, cheese and I love to scoop mine up with pork rinds
Chicken breasts cooked in mushroom/chicken soup, add whatever veggies you have on hand. I like mine over buttered green beans or broccoli
Omelettes stuffed with cheese, bacon, ham, sauteed mushrooms with extra cheese and sour cream on top.

get some samples of low carb protein drinks from Vitalady so you can find out what you like.
Drink more water, some gentle exercise and snack on high protein/high fat foods and you will lose this extra.

try looking at daily Vites & Bites and the "what's for dinner" thread each day for ideas on things to cook and snack on!!

Hugs to ya

There is excellent help on the daily Bites and Vites thread.  You can go back and read it for as long as you have time to see what people eat who are trying to lose regain.  There are some REAL success stories in those threads.

But otherwise I can't comment because I don't know what you are eating.  Also have you had FULL labs done recently?  docs.google.com/Doc

Are you on the correct and complete vites? www.gblcreations.com/Resources/Gina/ProgramDRNY_ERNY_BPDDS3- 2010.pdf

And if you've been away from this forum for a while or are new I really recommend you read all of this including all the links:  www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/4280788/Repost-Request-Advice- for-Pre-Ops-with-Links/

I have had about a ten pound regain from my very lowest, very scrawny weight of 116, which lasted for about two weeks.   I've maintained in the approximately 125 range now for several years.    Once in a while, after a few weeks of shameless carb consumption, I'll feel bloated and yukky, and jump up about five pounds.   Cutting out the wheat does the trick.     Wheat and I have become tremendous enemies.   I find if I eat a high protein, high fat diet with modest portions of carbs and sugar, but very little wheat, I don't even have to think about my weight.   I also STRICTLY stay away from any sweetened beverages.

Be honest with yourself about what you are consuming.   26 grams of carbs per protein shake is senseless, in my opinion, when there are so many other low-carb options out there.   As others have said, just because your husband likes pasta doesn't mean you have to eat it too.   Last night I made spaghetti and meatballs for my husband.   I took some meatballs and put them in a casserole, pour spagetti sauce over that, mixed ricotta cheese, egg and parmesan cheese and spread a layer of that on top, poured more sauce over that, then topped it off with mozzarella cheese.   No wheat, and DELICIOUS.   Learn to take care of yourself first.   Your husband will survive if he doesn't eat his carbs, but you will continue to gain if you eat like him!

Good luck!

OMG, that meatball concoction sounds delish.  I'll bet my guys won't even miss the pasta, either.

Val - it was good!     I just used Sam's Club frozen meatballs.  I don't do many convenience foods, but I was just too lazy to make fresh ones on a school night.

I appreciate everyone's help here.  I have been doing some soul searching and I really have no one to blame but myself.  I just need to get back to the basics that I had forgotten about.  Most of all I realized I need to cut out PEPSI..grr.  I'm addicted to it.  Thanks for all the tips and reminders.  It's nice to know you have someone to count on.

I have epilepsy and have been on meds for years. Depakote causes a metobolic change and causes a person to gain weight through no fault of their own (it also makes most people very tired).  If you are on Depakote ask to try something else--it will be a hassle to change to a new drug, but worth it in the end.  If not Depakote, google your drug's side effects--this may have something to do with that.

On another note, it sounds like you KNOW you eat too many carbs so try cutting back for a few weeks and see if it helps.  I usually eat ragu and stuff plain without pasta. I have another friend who uses spaghetti squash as a slightly better option.  Or cook your husband a big tub of pasta for the week with sauce and let him reheat in the micro.  You are under no obligation to feed him--he is grown and can boil his own.
