I was 55 when I had my DS.  I did take 8 weeks off before I went back to work.  I had a textbook recovery.  I'm 59 now and feeling in my 40s.

Do not let age stop you ! There are a lot of people over 50 who have had the DS and gone on to have VERY normal lives with no issues ! Just be sure and use a vetted DS doc. Have you picked a doc yet ?  see www.dsfacts.com if you have not. If you have sorry picked one sorry I missed it, been very busy lately !

I was 53, and I have a friend who was 62 at the time of her DS. My brother was 55 or 56. We've all done great.

The rest of your life is the rest of your life.  Doesn't matter if you are 25 or 75.  Do what you can do to make the rest of your life the best it can be.

I had mine at 48 and I'm almost 57 now.  I'm doing great, no problems or complications.

57 at the time of my DS and doing great now.  I had a rough recovery, but I have no idea if it was due to my being older or just the way it was for me. Some younguns have had problems as well, so I'm not sure how or if age even matters.

OLDER, THAN DIRT YOU ASK, I was 61, it was a brief intermission from retirement and skiing to get my ds.  didn't interfere with anything. not even eating except for a month,  and taking 4 diabetic meds.

There are lots of us who were switched in our 50's. I was 56 when I got the revision to DS and that was more than 3 years ago. Mine was a difficult surgery and recovery, but after a couple of months I started feeling better and better and by 9 months I was water skiing. Go for it, my only regret is waiting so long to get the revision from the old RNY / Gastric Bypass hack job.
