Yeah, ditto. What comes out of there naturally is bad enough...

It sounds like you all reacted the same way I did.
Yuck.
I didn't think about men, though. I guess they don't think men get wls?

Trust me when I say, I don't know of ONE man who would have a portion of his stomach pulled (edit) out of his penis! But the visual IS interesting to contemplate.

All kidding aside, the wording of this piece leads me to believe that Dr isn't really interested in the patient as an individual. The idea that those "extra" test's results wouldn't change the surgical outcome scares the crap outta me! It brought to mind the stories I've heard about (caring) Drs who upon seeing test results that were not quite right or during an operation finding tumors or other signs of disease, postponed or cancelled WLS to get the patient the care they needed before they were in too deep (ie recovering from DS surgery AND having to then get cancer treatments). I had a friend who lost about 150lbs in about a year (naturally, she thought), then, 5 weeks after panni/breast PS found out she had stage 4 colon cancer.

Just makes me thankful for the informed, communicative people on this board and in RL who think before they jump at something WONDERFUL, NEW & IMPROVED, etc, etc.

Myself, I'll stick with the specialists who have performed the MOST surgeries in their specialty, and have the track record and stats to show just why they are the best...(Keshishian, Rabkin,) yes, I am biased towards these 2 California Docs TYVM

You are so right. I was nervous about such a drastic surgery so I went to the best. Before that I had a consultation with another doc who did the DS but was pro RNY. I wanted someone pro DS. However, the pre-op testing uncovered a parathyroid tumor, severe obstructive sleep apnea and Hashimoto's disease so the need for pre-op testing is very valid. This guy, besides sounding a bit narcissistic, seems to like to cut corners. Had I gone ahead with the DS without having my parathyroid tumor removed first , I would be in a boatload of trouble early out with bone issues. Thank goodness for pre-op testing and the surgeons who insist on them.
