... if erosion, vomiting, slippage and reflux are considered by my insurance to be "physiological or surgical complications," then WTF do I need to do to prove "mechanical failure" of my band??? Any ideas? A leak? A broken port? I don't have those, although if you can tell me how to break this thing, I would consider it

I am so sorry you are going through this. What insurance do you have? I haven’t submitted for approval yet so I will be watching for any responses you get. By the way, we’re neighbors- I’m in San Diego.

Hello neighbor! I have Cigna HMO. They hate me. I puke daily when my band is partially filled. I have esophageal dysmotility, but according to Cigna, that is a "physiological" complication- my  own body's fault, not the band, dammit. What insurance do you have?

Lori, you need a doctor that will help you get passed the insurance crap.

Good luck

I never did prove mechanical failure of mine, I just proved that I needed to revise. I am not actually sure how it happened; have you chosen a surgeon? I don't think it would have happened for me without the help of my doctor's patient coordinator *****ally went to bat for me with them.

I am a Lap band revision....surgery is scheduled for jan 19th.  My insurance however is Aetna.

I've had my band slip 2x since 05/09 when it was placed.  I agree - you need to have a good doc who is willing to go to bat for you to get the crapband OUT of you.

If it wasn't for the slippage, I would be in agreement with you on trying to break the stupid thing!  LOL

I would say the next step is to definately talk to your surgeon or search for one that can help you get an approval for a revision.
