Is your surgeon Dr. Daryl Stewart?

Ok, so I had a LB in 2008 then revised to VSG.  Now, I would like to revise to DS.  Just wanted to see if anyone else out there has Dr. Stewart for their DS Surgeon. 

What was your weight when you got Switched? 

How much weight did you lose?  

Did your insurance cover it?  My insurance is BCBS Federal.

Hey! Dr. Stewart is great, highly recommend him! I was a lightweight so unfortunately I didn't qualify with my insurance, United Healthcare.  My weight the day of surgery was 197. My weight this morning is 104 (I'm 5'2"). Dr. Stewart will take time to answer all your questions.

You did great!!!     Right now my weight is 187 lbs.  It would be great if I could go down to 120 lbs.  I just had my records faxed to his office.  This will be my 2nd revision.  I had the LAB in 2008 then Sleeve in 2009. 

How much does the DS cost?  In case my health insurance denies my coverage.

 If you go to Dr. Stewarts web site www.weightlosssurgeon.com.  He has a link to self pay prices for each of the surgeries he provides.   You have to click on one of the surgeries and scroll down a  little until you are just below the area on the left that asks you to put in your weight name etc and there is a button for special pricing for self pays.

Dr. Stewart is one of the best! Not only is he a talented surgeon, his nutrition coaching and aftercare is great. I wish more docs had aftercare programs like that.

I was 297lbs when I was switched, I had a virgin lap DS.

So far I've lost 112lbs in 11 months.

My insurance had a water-tight exclusion for all WLS so I paid out of pocket.

I paid $22k for the virgin DS (lap), that included surgeon and hospital fees. I'm, not sure how much it would cost to have your revision since you've already had the sleeve long ago, and all that is left to be done is the "switch" part.

Hopefully your insurance will cover it, otherwise try appealing, there's a fair number who have gotten approved after appealing.

Both my husband and I were patients of Dr Stewart.  

He was 342, diabetic, hypertensive and hyperlipidemic.  He's lost 170 pound and all of his comorbidities--in fact the diabetes was gone before he left the hospital.

I was 230 lbs (a light weight), no comorbids but a serious family history that was like a train bearing down on me.  I've lost 105 lbs and I'm holding happily at 125.  

Texas is a mandated state so, in theory, insurance has to cover WLS, however, employers can exclude it from their coverage.  This is what happened with us.  We paid out of pocket for both surgeries.  It required huge sacrifice and we would do it again yearly if we had to!

Since his surgery, my husband has had 30 patients also get the DS.  2 went to Dr Barker.  3 went to Ari Keshishian in CA.  The rest are Stewart's.  The Stewart patients have only experienced patient-caused (i.e. they did stuff they knew better than to do) complications and are all on track to reach goal by 1 year-18 months.   Currently we are Stewart's largest referral base.

Anyway,  I do have Type II Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High cholesterol and GERD. 

Yes, I hear nothing but good things about Dr. Stewart.  

I hope that my insurance will cover it.
