Please help me get my protein in (What's the best protein powder?)
Hello everyone,
I am two months post op from an RNY to a DS revision, and I am now down 42lbs, and doing well except that I am having trouble finding a protein powder that agrees with me. I am very picky about textures and taste, and I need to find one asap to start getting enough protein into my diet. I am also dealing with nausea due to medication I am on for my Lupus. Because of this, meat based proteins tend to feel too "heavy" right now. So, I am really feeling frustrated and need ideas on how to get my protein in each day. Thank you so much!

You might want to order some samples from Vitalady and see what works for you . My favorites are the Syntrax Nectars (chocolate, strawberry and cappuccino) and IDS MultiPro vanilla-cinnamon.

Champion Pure Whey Stack in Chocolate is pretty much all I drink! Lori's protein shakes are legendary. Here's the link: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/4280141/Step-by-step-directions-on-how-to-make-the-best-protein/#35237217
Another brand with fantastic taste but less protein is Chike. You can get a sample set of all their flavors for $7 at http://www.chikenutrition.com/free-sample.html. It's well worth it! Every flavor is great.
I second MajorMom's suggestion to try samples from Vitalady before investing in a larger amount.
The cheapest place I've found to purchase powder protein is allstarhealth.com.

I have problems with whey, so have to use eggwhite protein powder. I doctor up my shakes with dark choc powder, a little vanilla, peanut butter and a banana. EW protein only comes in Vanilla Custard and Rich Chocolate. I docter both flavors. I also use the flavored SF syrups.

I'm kind of in the same boat. The Champion proteins were fine for me pre-op, but now the smell of them is making me want to hurl. I was just reading this blog about tips for getting in protein, and I might try the brand she recommends.

Even if you don't try that brand she has a bunch of good tips!

If texture is an issue, I LOVED the Jay Robb proteins when I was early out because the powder was finer/smoother than any others I've tried. They are more expensive, though, since they are all natural and whatnot. I never found a protein I enjoyed when mixed only with water (including Syntrax Nectars - personally could not STAND them), but mixing with unsweetened almond milk is less heavy than regular milk or cream or whatever, so you may want to try that as well.
For less work, have you tried the PRemier ready-to-drink shakes from Costco? Most people like them, and I don't find them particularly thick or heavy (to me, they're less dense than, say, a Slim Fast shake).
