I never start there...I should.  (And since Diana thinks I have a super-google machine, you get to tell her I do NOT.)

And, my Medicare starts in January, so the studies on elderly are spot on!

Thanks again!

The prescription is in OIL.  We don't absorb it.  The DRY is DRY and we do absorb it.

Her response to that was along the lines of "we don't need you to absorb the oil...just the Vitamin D that is IN the oil.  We may have to throw way more than the average dose at you, but you will absorb it."

I was told the same EXACT thing (for Vit K RX-as I am deficient)  Well at least you will get some......amazing wonder if they consulted with each other?

My pharmacist's response?   If you are only absorbing 20% of the oil you ingest, you're only absorbing 20% of the D.

Ergo, she's written the Rx for 350% of the normal RX, with provisions to move on to 700%.

Mathematically, taking 7 times what the average is, and absorbing 20% of that SHOULD, in her mind anyway, work.  (Of course, it's the WRONG D, but I'll send her the abstracts that Kayla provided.)  But I think that SHE'S figuring that:

50,000 IUs per week is the usual dose
I will absorb 20% of that...10,000 IUs from each capsule
EOD will probably NOT be enough...+/-35,000 per week
but DAILY, will double that to 70,000 IUs a week

that SHE thinks I'll absorb.

lol

Vitamin D has to be incorporated into a little oily droplet thingy in order for it to be absorbed.  Does she think they just packaged it in oil for funsies?
