What is up with the DS board?

I've been a member of this board for several years; way before I had my surgery, I was lurking here and gathering information. I generally stay out of the dust-ups and instead sit back with my popcorn and enjoy the show. But I have to say, I have NEVER experienced support like I've gotten from the people here. Not in real life, not on any other forum, not from family, NEVER. The DS board requires thick skin and an intelligent mind, and the ability to sift the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.Take what you want, and leave the rest.

So here is my thing with this kind of thread, take it for what it is which is just my opinion. I have only been on this board on a regular basis for a couple of months. Posts like this are the reason new people to the board are afraid to ask their questions. I have had plenty of things I would like to know about, but I'm out doing my own research rather than posting here because I keep seeing these threads about how mean everyone is. So far, I havn't seen any posts with anyone actually being mean, so it's time to stop posting inflamatory things and get on on with the business of learning about what has been done to your body and the changes and whatnot. I for one, am done being afraid to ask questions because of a few threads with no data to back them up.
Good for you! Ask away.
There are times when you might get referred back to reading some board history, or you might be given some assistance in using search parameters to find the material you're looking for. That is a normal way of learning new information. But I'm sure you already understand that it takes time and effort to give responses, so you'll forgive folks who would rather tell you how to find the info rather than type it all out again.
You'll be fine :-).

Oh, I've done extensive reading on all the newbie links and I read every post, I've just been a little hesitant to ask questions when most of the data is there for finding. My angel is a DSer from 6 years ago when I was her angel in Brazil and she is an amazing source of information as well. My point is that rather than being constructive this sort of thread only serves to make people new to the boards afraid to get the help they need and that's just not okay.
