Elevated Vitamin B12

Hello:

I did my 3 months lab today and they are coming in pieces.  So far I see a very high number on my vitamin B12.  It is 1498 and it should range between 211-911.  What does this mean?  I read somewhere that this might be due to liver problems.  Should I stop taking the vitamin B12 dosage recomended by Vitalady?

Please advise.

Thanks
Ruby

From what I know the # should be between 800-2000.
The lower #s are the old ones.

Besides what you don't use with the B12 you will pee out.
But if it makes you feel better just take it every other day instead of every day.

That's what I did after my levels came back >1999. Your level is great, not to high.

My lab is still showing 211-911 as the reference range.

Where are new guidelines published?

email me and I'll send you a cluster of things done in 05. There's some stuff at recent ASMBS conferen es discussing brain damage (or as my friend says who was low in B12, drain bamage), as high as 550.

I can't explain why we're 6 yrs past these studies and our ranges remain in the danger zone.

I'd like to keep mine pushing 2000, but I'll settle for anything with 4 digits. It's not much, but it's the only brain I've got. And I use it for....... stuff, which my early low B12 levels have promptly erased.

It's not too high. You really want it over 1000 and a little under 2000. If you're worried, cut back to taking it 5 days a week.

Mine was 5000 and I am taking a little bit of a break, but I don't have the DS so Ithink that's okay for me.

your surgery type doesn't matter

if you are 40+, and for sure past 50, your ability to make IF winds down, so even if you are a fierce carnivore and live for red meat and eggs, doesn't do any good without a good, fully stocked IF factory.

If you have had ANY type of stomach surgery, not limited to WLS, OR if you have a genetic disorder which messed with your IF factory

I try to keep my B12 between 1500 - 2000.

Anything below 400 can cause serious neuro problems.  I don't know why the lab values are not adjusted accordingly.
