I was wondering if this is true, I read on a boeard very recenlty that all DSrs have ulcers at one time or another.
is this true?
Does the huge volume vitamins cause this?
Thanks All.

I don't know if that is true or not, but at least if we do get them, they are not in the separated stomach of a RnYer, where you can't scope them or send anything down orally to treat them! I am curious now to see if we get them or not, but I am happy with the accessibility of our little stomachs.

Say what?  Did they mention their reasoning or proof about this?

I've never seen/read about this.  In fact, I think the preservation of the pylorus and part of the duodenum are actually supposed to prevent ulcer formation.

I've never read that.  The issue I am aware of about ulcers is that with the RnY you can get ulcers in the blind stomach that can't be scoped to look for them. So people with the RnY are usually told to never take an NSAID again.

I know that life can give one good reason to need an NSAID, especially as we age.  So with the DS I can take NSAIDs if necessary.

Could you link us up with the information about ulcers and the DS please?

the remnant can be scope via a scope called double balloon endoscopy.

And everything we read on the Internet is right, right?

Sometimes it is hard to sort out the good info from the dross, but this one is easy. No, we are not prone to ulcers. In fact, we have far LESS problems with ulcers than the folks with RNY, who are at risk for ulcers at the stoma (the connection between their pouch and the small intestine) and who also must take into account the blind stomach, which is not accessable with either scope or upper GI x-rays. These are the reasons that NSAIDs are contraindicated for them for life.
Most people with the DS can take NSAIDs, though of course only in correct doses, and it's best to keep them to the minimum needed. We can get ulcers, just like people who have never had surgery, but very few of us do.

PS vitamins don't cause ulcers, even in large volumes.

You ought to go back to that board and ask how they came up with that statistic. Maybe that board isn't putting out good information.
