What vites and how many do you take?

I never pay more that $10 for shipping. Go look at her site and see for yourself how it works. Do some of that work yourself.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. Vitalady is probably the best but is also probably the most expensive (Quality always costs).  About how much do you spend per month?

A couple of things, but I clicked on this comment and I'll get to it shortly.

I know you want to "research" vitamin costs.  We all do.  But do not assume that YOU are the only super shopper on the site.  Do not assume that you will find some fantastic deal that none of us were able to locate.  Several of us here actually know how to read AND how to "cypher" as they used to say and we're fair to middlin' at it.  We have ALL looked for vitamin bargains and it's hard to beat Vitalady.

For example, she sells the super Vitamin D that many of us need to take CHEAPER than the company that makes it.  And she'll ship you all this stuff for free if you spend $300.  You can DO what many of us did..look around...calculate the prices...deal with numerous sites...pay shipping to LOTS of places...or you can take the collective wisdom of this board and assume that we have all done that and finally figured out that it's cheaper to buy in quantity and have VitaLady pay the postage.  (Feel free to hope to find something cheaper...but don't expect that we're keeping some secret just to support VitaLady.)

Now, on the $100 per month on supplements and vites.  If you don't have that money...do not have the DS AND do not have the RnY.  These procedures are a recipe for death if the patient does not supplement appropriately.  AND you need to figure on well over $1000 worth of labs a couple of times a year.  Depending on how well-trained your PCP is, your insurance may or may not pay for those.

In the long run, you are not going to find the quantities,  quality, and cost-effectiveness anywhere else better cheaper than Vitalady.

I had my DS 11.5 years ago.  Many people here have been living with the DS for a long time too.

You can either take the advise and counsel and collective wisdom of what you are being told,  or don't.  But stop the attitude of you're going to somehow find it better cheaper than all of the very smart people here who have been doing this for a long time.

You know why vitalady is so good at what she does?  Because she started out as a WLS patient and needed this stuff better and correctly and cheaper too.    Duh.

As for your surgeon....you want to got to somebody who has limited DS experience?  That's your choice.  Eventually you'll be back on this site asking for help when your surgeon gives you advice that lands you in trouble.  Or worse...

And you are still ignoring the other issues I raised about iron infusions,  dexa scans,  labs,  specialists,  meds,  devrom, other digestive aids, health insurance,  GERD,  air fresheners, etc.  Like you want to pretend that if you get your vitamins down to $50 (which you won't,  and anyway it will only get more expensive with time most likely) then you'll be able to afford living with the DS.....the DS is not cheap...and it's far, far, from just the vitamins.

NYB- I have to admit that I'm scared that I really can't afford the DS.  I've spent all of my time knowing that I could afford the vitamins and PCP co-pays and even specialist co-pays, but I've probably made the mistake of just assuming the labs would be covered if coded correctly or that the DEXA scans would be covered if my PCP says they are necessary.  Honestly, I don't think I could afford to pay outright for labs, dexa scans, or even to pay for COBRA if I were to lose my job.  This is upsetting to think about but definitely a reality check.  As much as I'm not happy about it, thanks for posting this just to put things in perspective.

Sue,

I am in no way meaning to denigrate the experience out here.  I'm also not trying to reinvent the wheel...I am trying to get my mind around this.  The most I've ever spent for supplements was a giant bottle of Flinstones....I have always gotten my 'vitmins from my food.

Have you looked at the responses? Most use vitalady...some do not.  There is nothing wrong with bargain shopping but I need to know what and what dosage folks take to even begin to do that simple task.

I have the most methodical PCP ever to step onto this earth.  She drives me crazy but she won't miss a thing.  She will spend as much time as is required to assure that.   I hate going to see her but I know that she is great at what she does.

'hlo fellow hoosier :)

Yeah, but...it will depend on YOUR labs.

Perhaps I need to accept that I can't put a number on a spreadsheet for this and it's going to be a point of frustration and worry for me.

I think that's exactly what you need to do.  Your best ballpark estimate of future costs should be at the high end of the spectrum, as i said previously.  Plan for worst-case scenario, in case you're severely malabsorptive.  You may not be, but as in everything - it pays to be proactive.

As far as your surgeon choice...  it is any prospective patient's responsibility to do their due diligence regarding their surgeon.  You've heard what some think, and it is still up to you to make your own decision.  Some of us respect that, regardless of the outcome.
