No you don't have to low carb while on steriods although its a good idea.  Prednisone makes you hyper, insomnia, hunger as hell, irritated etc.  I do low carb all the time.

Celexa several months ago stopped my wt loss on a dime because prior to taking celexa which did help with the depression and grieving over loss of my dad, uncle and grandmother in a 3 month period.  I will be weaning off this med Nov 1.

Predinsone causes me to have serious niacin flushing but it is helping my back and I will be done with it next Wed.

I can relate.  I did get to goal and below but I still was extremely freaked out by a 4 lb regain from my lowest weight.  I am just now calming down a bit about regain.  I don't even weigh every day (gasp!).

I know that the way I am eating right now I am going to maintain for now.  But I am not yet two years out and I do worry that my malabsorption will lessen in the next couple of years.

If you can get back to low carb, high protein I think you can continue to lose weight even being on the weight gainer medications.  Give it your very best shot!!!

Yea, Becky I have to get myself out of the old thinking that starvation is the way to go.  I am fighting with making sure I eat.  I like my protein shakes during the day and I eat usually one meal in the evening.

I am realizing that this is a old starvation trick that we all have used to fool ourselves that we werent getting calories during the day and we could relax in the PM.  But for DS my Protien shakes are great and I should splurge in the evening.  I like my salad with ranch and chicken which is also good.

I think I worry so much that I don't eat enough most of the time.  There is no diet for the DS just low carb it.  I love my DS but I have to kick it back into gear after I get off all this stuff.

Well there is one big DS rule and that is to get enough protein.  For folks who don't like to eat a lot they should really make sure they get their 100 grams of protein in shakes and then what protein they do eat is gravy.  That is what I am doing now and I've never felt better.

Also make sure you always get your water and of course your vites.

The proof of how well you are doing will be in your labs.

I am slowly stopping worrying about regain.  I went a bit nuts for a while and tried to lose my 5 lb rebound and I couldn't do it.  But I seem to be at a set point which is a very good weight for me and I'm really happy with it.

Thanks Becky

I do get an average of 160-200 grams protein a day (lesson I learned from Lori Black).  I do the double scoop champion stack whey and sometimes add peanut butter.  I make my shakes with heavy cream and water.  They are awesome.

I take my vits and my water serious and my labs are awesome.  I just stopped loosing as did Sohpie.  We were heavy wts so I gonna have to step it up some but not starve or go crazy with excercise so I can hit onderland at least.

I do however look pretty good where I am at but I am a true woman lol and I still have things I want fixed.

Good for you Carla.  I bet if you just lower your carbs you will see the weight keep coming off.  Do you count carbs?

I'll be swinging critters that you keep losing because you are a GREAT DSer.

I did count carbs in the beginning but quit.  I have dealt with so much sorrow and loss this entire year that I just didn't eat sometime then I would eat too much, started drinking pepsi and then quit that etc.  I would start to pick up a bad thing or habbit but I would catch myself and stop.

When I return back to Florida Oct 23 I will begin to actually count carbs because I want to see what 2 weeks of 20 will do and then add 10 and so on.  Kinda a experiment so I can help others.

I love my protien so I will always do that.  I just can't get over that its ok to use heavy cream and 3 equal which makes a wonderful tastey shake and even adding peanut butter is just awesome and its simply OK.

P. S.  You will see me on bites and vites and I will post weekly update on how the severe low carbing goes.  I started to do this 10 months ago but my father passed and I laid that aside.

Carla,

I'm sorry for your loss and sorrow.  It is really hard to take care of ourselves when we are hurting.  I will look for your posts on bites and vites.  I think you are going to see tremendous success,  because you've already been very successful and you know what you need to do.  Your DS is going to work for you now, just like it always has.

Hey Carla, I can actually hear the anxiety in your post honey...
Take a deep breath....you are travelling a well worn path here .

Elixir is right, the increased appetite due to the steroids can be looked at as a positive thing....use it as a means to get extra protein in your menu. If you are hungry, eat something but make it protein not carbs, drink lots of water, iced tea, make protein shakes and drink them. This is not about deprivation now, its about taking care of your new anatomy.

You don;t mention how far out you are but I am confident that you WILL get to Onederland sweetie but you will need to be accountable to yourself. Its highly likely that some gentle walking will help your back, elevate your mood and dampen your appetite and help with water weight and swelling.

I went from a size 22-24 and am now a 4-6 but at one point I was a size 2 (primarily due to my complaications - I was not healthy looking at this weight). I can relate to the fear of regain as today I had to put some jeans in to the Goodwill that were too small for me now.....I had to silence that nagging horrible voice from my childhood that tells me I am going to fail, that this won;t work in the long term, that here comes the regain....blah blah (insert your own negative tape here). Its my disease, it;s not reality....I had to keep reminding myself that I have lost over 140lbs from my highest weight, I am at the lower end of normal BMI and my body fat etc is great.....this fear won't go away overnight...in fact it may never go completely away but it CAN be managed, and that's what your friends here are for!!

Try posting on the Vites and Bites thread explaining you are trying to get to onderland and then other posters can help you with low carb ideas and comments.

I am 22 months post DS.  I believe there is still time.  My anxiety is due to the fact that I have had to fight the meds to loose and then I just stopped.  I will be off steriods next Wed.  Weaning off Celexa starting Nov 1 so those issues will be gone soon.

When I have that late night munch attack, I have a shake with peanut butter in it.  I do all the right things but still have that fear.  I am gonna supper low carb for a while if I can tolerate it.  I seem to get weak if I go to low.  I do well 50-100.  I want to try 20 a day for a couple weeks to see what happens.

I love my new jeans so much.  But I have been here before and regain took it all away very fast.  But I have to say, I have bounced in a 10 pounds range for 6 months no matter what I do.
