I know what you mean, if I were a smoker I'd have lit up a cigarette after each meal.

I think the pear texture is just too much for my tummy right now, I also have stomach problems with cooked artichokes-- which has a similar mouth feel to cooked pears (soft, but fibrous and slightly grainy). While I'm not sure the pear tart had sweetener added to it (it tasted like the pear was poached in pear juice rather than sweetened with something else), I've eaten some SF candy with sugar alcohols but didn't have any problems back then, so the only item in the lunch that stood out as the culprit was the pears since it was a new food for me post-op. Oddly I can eat apples just fine with the skin on, go figure!

you really have me drooling!! OMG that all looks so heavenly! I haven't been on a cruise since the DS and when I was I had a teeny pouch and couldnt eat more than a bite or two (unless is was soft like soups or pudding etc). I had a erstrictive surgery for 25 years and didn't even know what I was missing as I was so used to it
 
With the DS I eat so much more and lose weight. It's time to plan another cruise! thanks for the thrills!

Absolutely! You should definately  treat yourself to a cruise and enjoy the food, the relaxation and abundance of quality protein is good for the DSer's recovery. It's a also way to break in the new and improved stomach you have, hehehehe. Just be sure to take lots of pics of the food when you go

I took some more food porn pics for this thread. Woot!

I've been on a Chinatown (NY) kick lately. It's not far from my pad, lots of great shopping, and I really like Chinese food. I hear the San Fran Chinatown makes NY Chinatown look like small fries, but I'll take what I can get!

Last week I made my pilgimage to Chinatown without an umbrella. The sky opened up and poured cats and dogs. I ducked into a teahouse awning for shelter, then realized I was hungry and decided to wait out the storm over dim sum. Sadly the storm didn't let up, but it gave me more time to enjoy the tea!


I started with a big pot of chrysanthemum tea, my first time trying it. I loved it.



Shrimp rice noodle rolls. I picked out the shrimp and left most of the noodles, but found this a little plain for my taste. I guess this is a dish to order if you like rice noodles without much on them. The noodles have an interesting texture when served this way- very elastic and almost gooey. Personally, I wouldn't order this again.



Eggplant stuffed with shrimp paste. I'm a sucker for the eggplant + shrimp combination, they go so well together and I love the textures. This teahouse did a good job preparing the dish, the eggplant was soft but not coated in grease, the brown sauce was light and not oily or gloppy at all.


Can you tell that I like shrimp? This is salt and pepper shrimp, yes, whole with the heads-on! Don't be turned off, this is the tastiest way to have shrimp prepared. The heads and shells add a lot of flavor, and for this dish you're supposed to eat the heads and the shells! You may peel them if you like, but you'd be missing out on the good stuff! These shrimp are rolled in salt and pepper, given a dusting in cornstarch and deep fried so their shells are crackle-crisp- so the heads, legs and shells are almost like a shrimp pork rind. The heads have the most instense shrimpy flavor, if you're adventurous about food I highly recommend it.


Today I was running errands in Chinatown and needed lunch, and I had a hankering for peking duck which arguably the nommiest of all duck dishes- crispy crackling skin with a layer of fat, tender meat, I'm drooling. I also ordered pork and leek dumplings- those were OK but I only ate two (leaving most of the wrapper behind), I didn't expect there to be so many of them and I wound up ordering too much food.


Close up of the Peking Duck this is a half order, an entire duck is far too much for my post-op stomach. My stomach loves soft protein and fat, so I was able to eat all the duck on the plate over the course of an hour.



The duck is served with pancakes, peking duck sauce, cucumber and leeks so you can make tasty chinese rolls- kind of like an asian burrito. I made one pancake roll and ate it, but the wrapper pancake was too bulky for my stomach. So I ditched the pancakes, and just ate the duck with the veggies.

I will lurk over to any board that has delicious cruise food porn. I just got off the Infinity a couple of weeks ago. It's so hard to leave that ship I want to live on that ship.
I ate what I wanted. I  always had at least a bite of dessert. One of my favorites was  actually a sugar free strawberry shortcake. There was audible moaning
This was our second Celebrity cruise and we are looking at booking again next summer.
You did have me beat on volume-you darn DS folks!-but I ate very well.
Here I am on the balcony with a mocktail and getting ready to go down to the Cova Cafe for my millionth latte

Which destination did you see on the Infinity cruse? I see you were addicted to the Cova Cafe too, it's it a great addition to the ship? I went there soo many times I was ashamed of myself (wellllllll, almost- lol).

I know what you mean about wanting to live on the ship, the staff is wonderful when it comes to hospitality. They're so nice and helpful, make you feel welcome, always checking if you need anything. By the time you get used to it, it's time to go home (noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!).

I had the SF strawberry shortcake you spoke of (on a different ship), oh yes, it was REALLY good! They also have a great SF raspberry panna cotta, if you see that I recommend it. Celebrity feeds their passengers too well, but hey, you're on vacation- right?

We mostly go on cruises out of Seattle so we don't have to get on any planes. This one was a week cruise to Alaska. We've been on Pacific coast cruises and one Caribbean cruise.

I will look for the raspberry panna cotta next time!
