What foods do you miss after the DS? Any substitutions?

I eat a few kinds, yes.

1.  Special K protein Plus.  Probably has the most carbs, but is tasty.  Only place I can find it is in wal-mart, here.  I'm gross and I like it super soggy.  haha

2.  Hi-Lo cereal: probably not easy to find in most grocery stores, but mine carries it.  It's almost $5/box, but it's like 12g protein, 13g carb, 6g fiber in 1/2 cup

3. TVP: textured vegetable protein.  Not a cereal, but it's defatted soy flour and it's like little nuggets that are kinda crunchy that I eat with milk, stevia, and cinnamon.  Kinda cereal-esque.

I am also lucky to have low carb milk available to me...soooo...that helps.  haha

I swear I can never move, lest I lose my ability to buy my special milk.

I would also probably eat kay's naturals cereals, but I don't really like buying food online.

Ooooh Kayla you eat cereal?!  Is there such as thing as a high protein kind of cereal?  I've looked and looked at cereal and the only thing I am willing to risk eating is original Fiber 1 with unsweetened almond milk.  Needless to say I won't even eat a full serving of it.  Any suggestions on cereal?  The more variety I will be able to have, the less likely I will be to choose the "wrong" things.
Kashi has some great high protein cereals. Check 'em out   they're good!

I'm a little over 2 months out and I am LOVING my DS.  That said, now that I am beginning to add more variety to my diet I am finding there are some foods that I miss.  I refuse to eat these items because:

1.)  I do not want it to slow my weight loss
2.)  I do not want to feel it's "okay" to eat these items occasionally
3.)  I do not want the digestive issues that may be associated with these foods.

Has anyone else experienced this?  If so, what do you do?  Do you just eat it or do you find a healthier alternative?  If you find an alternative,  are you satisfied with it?  Examples would be great!

For example I really wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  I was lucky to eat these once a year pre-op...but I had that craving.  I used a low carb lavash wrap (3 net carbs), a teaspoon of sugar free jelly with fiber (2 net carbs), and 2 tablespoons of a natural peanut butter (4 net carbs) to make a sandwich.  It was not as satisfying  as the real thing but took the "edge" off.  It had more carbs in it than I would normally eat in one sitting...so I paid for it later.
do miss my veggies. I really love a good salad, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower (sadly these two things irritate my stomach post op), artichokes (also irritates my tummy post op) and three bean salad. Sadly I can't find substitutions for the ones that now irritate my stomach (broccoli, califlower, artichokes, pears). On the other hand I have no digestive issues with carbs at all, even on the occasions where I eat white flour, white rice, or sugar. I'm not saying people don't have probems with certain foods, just that it differs so much from person to person that a blanket statement of "carbs are going to give you digestive hell" is just not true for everyone. I actually have more trouble with vegetables making me puke than I do with carbs causing gas.

I nomally don't have enough room for carbs after eating my protein, and even if  I do there's not enough room for a portion of carbs to do any real damage to my weight loss. So I dont worry about it.  Strict low-carbing is great if it works well for the individual, but I'm not one of them.   I feel there is a huge difference in carb quality depending on what the source is (ex: I prefer oatmeal-wheat bread instead of white when I do eat some). I made the switch to low glycemic carbs many years ago before my DS, and noticed how much better I felt (no more hypoglycemia!).

You may want to try PB&J with whole wheat crackers. Also a PB&B!!!

I don't miss anything. I eat everything and anything. I have very few intolerances and it seems my recently completed pregnancy cured me of my lactose issues (for now); hooray for ice cream.

I certainly eat far fewer of whatever junk food I inulge in. I mean, I used to eat four or hell lets be honest, six, oreos at a time. Now I'll have one. I used to be able to eat a whole large pizza hut pizza and some cheese bread now I can get down two pieces. I used to have a HUGE bowl of tortellini or mac and cheese now I have a cup's worth.

This is how I wanted to live though. I wanted to be able to enjoy food and enjoy it socially with my family (elephant ears and scones and fried twinkies at the fair for instance).

I eat everything I used to eat pre-op with the exception of sweets and sodas. Sodas make my stomach feel like it's going to rip apart, and sweets give me no satisfaction anymore. I ate a cookie yesterday because it looked good, but it tasted horrible. I'm thankful for that now, though. :) No temptations!

Can't do SF stuff, diet drinks, anything with SA.  I'm still lactose & whey intolerant, but can do cheese and premium ice creams.  Just no milk.  I bought Almond Silk but haven't tried it yet.  If I want a soda, I just do the real stuff.  Much better on my guts.

Cereal - I found a high protein 15g at Target.  They are speciality cereals in an oblong container.  I eat it dry when I want something crunchy.

I do limit the amount of pasta, flour, breads that I eat.  Sourdough generally works ok and raised yeast rolls with lots of butter.  I make a sandwich out of 4 slices of cheese, current kick is hot pepper jack w/mayo or miracle whip, then a piece of swiss, 4 oz of deli meat, swiss, hpj.  Generally around 48-52g per sandwich.  Eat one 1/2 at a time.
At work, I just can't take the chance of having a very bad afternoon w/gas & diarrhea, hence no bread.

If I want something I eat it, I may pay the price for it later, or will take a Gas-X strips soon after eating which helps a bit.

I miss linguine with Alfredo sauce.  Baked spaghetti and the 2 biggies...  Sour dough bread... and Cinnabon Cinny Rolls.

I used to love sour dough and linguine slathered over the top to make a sandwich.  Yep. :)

I haven't indulged,... yet.
Pick your surgery first, then your surgeon. Not the other way around.
PS:... Potato chips should be a food group.

I'm tired of screwing with that damn health widget.
