What foods do you miss after the DS? Any substitutions?

Its really the amount that gives me trouble. For example, I can have a few bites of cake w no trouble or I'll eat a whole piece and swell up and be uncomfortable. I did not do a lot of bread until I was a year out. I think slathered it up with butter or mayo and only 1 piece so that never gave me trouble. I do half buns on everything else so don't feel deprived.

The absolute only thing I completely stay away from is pasta like spagetti noodles. I don't enjoy it enough for the pain I'm sure it will cause. I make a buttery buttery garlic toast and put the meatballs and sauce on that, yum.

I've had cereal 3 times. The first two times small bowl, no trouble. Third time, I think it was a regular serving and I was absolutely miserable. miserable, so staying away from cereal.

so I guess I substitute or just eat small amount.

None.  I eat everything in moderation, as long as I get in all my protein.  I watched a much lower carb plan while I was losing, but for the most part, after about 4 months out, if I craved it, I would have a VERY small portion of the real deal and then move on.  I tried all the low/no carb replacements and they never did it for me.  The only low carb items I still use are pasta (because I refuse to burn 50g carbs on pasta, if Im gonna have that many carbs, it will be desert) & tortilla wraps (because I like the way they taste better).

PB&J is one of my favorites to this day.  I have one on two pieces of 15 grain bread, heavy on the extra chunky PB, with extra peanuts added to it, and a light smear of regular jelly at least once a week.  I wash this down with a small glass of half&half...  YUM!  I love my DS!

I am 2 months out as well, I usually have natural PB at home and high fiber preserves because DH  eats PB&Js for breakfast with coffee. I just take a bite of his if the mood strikes- and that is all it takes for me to be satisfied.

I think that being too restritive doesnt teach me to live with my DS and the way of eating that is needed. So if i crave sweets, instead of eating like 10 chocolates , i have 1 and i feel that is okay, especially since this happens so rarely for me now as i do not have a lot of cravings for sweets.

I use pork rinds instead of chips, dip in hummus. The rinds have  protein in them and no carbs and they satisfy the crunchy chip factor.

there are some good low carb -high fiber mission tortillas i use for wraps, but i always eat only a few of the sandwich pinwheels and always add more turkey or cheese or roast beef on the side.

Today i made soft tacos, i had 2 portions of taco meat and took 2 bites of an actual taco- so i got to have some taco but i augmented to have much less tortilla. This way i feel i eat taco but i also get lots of protein.

When I was in the weight loss phase, I really limited simple carbs and stuck to what I knew worked well for me.  Now that I'm at goal, I have very few food intolerances.  The thing that bothers me most is white rice, in any amount.  But it's not like I crave it or love it, so it's not really a problem.  I do love sushi, and ANY bit of white rice in a roll will have me bloated and crampy.  It's a trade off, I eat it sometimes and just pay the consequences.

Intolerances aside, what I do miss, though, is some volume eating experiences.  I have tight restriction, which I actually like, but it also means I cant eat a great deal of food in one sitting.  My husband and I are big "foodies", and love dining out.  I used to really enjoy tasting course menus, which I just cant do now.  It's an easy tradeoff, of course, there's no way I'd go back - but I wish I would have my old stomach back once or twice a year,  if you know what I mean.

The other "restriction" type thing I miss is sandwiches on big, crusty bread.  It doesnt bother me to eat them, but a few bites will do me in.

Roxy - Whole foods in Ann Arbor sells a WONDERFUL low-carb bread made by Cybros.     You will be able to have your PB&J guilt free.      It's only like 3 or 4 net carbs a slice.   *sigh*  I sure wish I had a Whole Foods within spittin' distance of Ludington.  That, and Trader Joes.

I was just at whole foods yesterday!  However I did not even look at their breads because I have not found any low carb breads any where else.  I have been using the lavash wraps since they are low carb...and yes even to make PB&J.  Thanks for the tip Julie, I will be sure to look for it next time I go there.

Do proceed with caution.....the Cybros is sprouted wheat, and lots of people who cannot tolerate wheat tolerate sprouted wheat.   Sara Lee also makes a bread called, I think "45 and Delightful."  I buy that at Meijer.   It is very tasty.   I can handle one piece of other of these brands, but two pieces give me gas!

Thanks for the warning Julie!  OMG I don't know what I ate yesterday because I thought I avoided carbs at all cost, but I did try a new brand of bbq sauce...but something I ate gave me the worst gas.    I fell asleep on the couch and my poor family (DH and 2 kids) woke me up spraying air freshener with their faces buried in their shirts.  oops!  lol  I've noticed I need to keep my carb count really low...like 30 or less, or I have digestive issues.

Most bbq sauces have a lot of sugar in it. I've been using Smokin' Joe Jones No Sugar Added Barbeque Sauce. It is sweetened with sucralose and it's pretty good. The whole family likes it.

I was thinking that was probably what caused it, that's why I mentioned it.  Of course I ordered some ribs from the pizza place by my house...so I think it was that bbq.  But OMG was it GOOD!!!  LOL  Thanks for the heads up on the bbq sauce...I'll have to look for it when I go shopping again.
