Protica

Just wondering if anyone else uses this magic stuff.  I am not a "shake" fan, and really, the faster I can choke a protien drink down, the better.  I have started using these because they are fast, easy (prepared already) and I can take them anywhere.

I am probably going to switch to the 50 g protien shots instead of the 25 now that I am almost a month out of surgery.

Anyone else use these?

i'm half asleep at the moment, but if i'm not mistaken, these are not ideal.  I can't recall the reason...  maybe the wrong kind of protein or how its sweetened or something, i don't remember.

These are an inferior source of protein because they contain a high percentage of collagen protein (like from skin). Nobody absorbs or utilizes this very well. Profect does have some other protein in its blend, so it's somewhat better than some other brands of these "bullets," but it's still a product to be used only if you can't gag down ANYTHING else, and then only for the shortest possible time.

I had bad problems with protein supplements after surgery and used these for a while. But I was aware of their limitations and really worked at getting onto protein from food ASAP.

It depends on the kind of protein. A lot of the "shots" are collagen which is the poorest quality protein and the least bioavailable. Have you checked out Vitalady's site where she talks about the various proteins?

You want whey or whey isolate proteins. Protica is not this. Sorry. bad choice.   I like IDS, any flavor http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ids/multi.html   or Protein Blitz in RTD, especially the orange mango.  http://www.proteinblitz.com/

I google and compare prices or usually Vitamin Shoppe is best deal for me where I am located.

Whey and whey isolate proteins tear up my guts.  I've used the protica, then mostly nothing, and now occasional egg white protein powder.  My protein numbers have always been good.

    I'll second that!

I can't use any whey of any kind!

Okay then - why is whey protien the best?

Whey is easiest for the body to absorb.

You might check out Protein Ice.  They re either 4 or 6oz, 32 g of whey protein isolate.  They are at MyBariatricpantry.com and at Amazon--slightly cheaper at Amazon.  Can't say much for the taste but it is pre-mixed, ready to go, small quantity.
