"I didn't want the surgery to take away my responsibility" Uhh, WHAAAAT?

To me, this is the biggest myth and stupidest thinking that we need to break through in order to get people to see that weight loss surgery is treatment for a medical condition, nothing more and nothing less.  People's brains are just stuck in a wacky gear.

If a person has a broken arm, they get it set and cast.  No one would expect them to "take responsibility" for skateboarding or whatever they did to get the broken arm and walk around holding their arm and not using it for however long.  Instead, people would just expect the person to see a specialist, address the bone injury, and move on with life  (perhaps choosing their recreational activities more wisely in the future ).

Before weight loss surgery, I ate what I wanted and saw the doctor when I felt like it. Now, I'm on a total tether, counting every bit of intake and being accountable to what seems like a thousand medical professionals.  Your list is perfect, Sonia.  It's a full-time job in itself.  I'd say I'm way more responsible for my health now than I ever was before surgery.

I'm at a loss for words, a friend w lapband said she NEEDS it to be hard. WTF is wrong with you?? Why do you feel a need to punish yourself? I PROMISE you I've been meaner to myself and harder on myself than any surgery, why would I add to that/ People are effed up in the head, in my opinion.

When I watched that I thought "yeah, and how has being responsible for this worked for you so far???"
We are all here because we have a disease/disorder/something wrong!!!!!!  It infuriates me that I can't be "well" because I was fat.  Any other survivor of a disease/disorder/something wrong is towded as a hero.

Guess what!  After YEARS of trying to take care of this problem myself I did the responsible thing for me.  I had a surgery that saved my life.  Gave me back my life.  Gave my family the better person I was trying to be all those years.

I'm not saying that responsibility always comes in the form of surgery.  It doesn't work that way for any disease/disorder/something wrong.  But I can tell you that it is what worked for me.  And i tried all the other treatments.

Here's to all the responsible people who will read this!

I refuse to watch ANY of that crap. Have been known to leave the vicinity when someone else had it on.

Ugh! That ****** me off!

I have MORE responsibilities NOW than I did PRE-OP!

My protein consumption has to be mint.  My vitamins - I never took them post-op and now, I live off the damn things.  Water - ugh... so much of it.  And the choices of food - it's so much harder.

I wish I could smack that woman!
