Update to my Iron question with even more Questions

Ok.... So Dr. Greenbaum prescribed me:

"Ferrous Sulfate 220 MG/5 ML ELIX"
"Take 1 teaspoonful by mouth twice a day"

From the search I've done on the forums I'm coming up with conflicting information.  I've read this isn't easily absorbed by DSers and then I'm reading that this is the kind I should be taking.  Any ideas?

This morning I tried getting down Vitaladys Tender Iron again and there's just something about any of the iron pills that make me gag.  It's the ONLY pill I have a problem with.  I've also tried chewables and it's the same problem.  I guess it's the taste, maybe the smell? I know it's vital that I get my iron in so I want to make sure I don't fall behind.

Here is a link to a reply from Vitalady to someone about Fe Sufate.

Just read the whole thing and honestly I can't absorb all of it.  I'm trying. Maybe I'll read it again in a little bit.  My ADHD is really acting up today.  On days like today it's best to talk to me like I'm 5.  LoL

I thought I learned all I could about vites as a pre-op but Iknow this is a never ending learning circle.  I know I'm still a month and half away from my first set of labs and I know how I"m feeling is normal.  I'm just so scared I'm gonna mess this up just like every diet and weight loss attempt in the past.  I just want to get this right damnit.

Plus if Ferrous Sulfate isn't good for DSers why in the would would Greenbaum of all doctors prescribe this?  I would expect my PCP to prescribe something like this first.  I guess thats where my biggest confusion lies.  He should know better right?

A lot of doctor should know a lot of things.  And a lot of them do not.

As you have read here many many times by now,  most surgeons do not know best what post-op requirements are.  It is not at all surprising to see that a DS surgeon is recommending a less than ideal type of iron.

OMG I love you! LOL!  I have days like that too with my ADHD when you just have to make it simple because I literally CAN'T follow what you're saying.  ::HUGS::

He's a surgeon, not a hematologist, endocrinologist or other specialist in issues relating to nutrition. He's doing better than the vast majority of docs by prescribing a liquid, but it's still not going to absorb well.

I know he's not which is why I turned to you all :)  Not that anyone here is a doctor but you would of at least told me where to go.

I rely heavily on the advice of the vets here.  Sometimes more so than most of the doctors I see.

OH I know, and my favorite one is lovingly referred to as Dr. Sexy in my house (he is, have you seen his pics? and this is coming from a lesbian!)

But it's vets like you that I count on because I can't post on here and assume that a Dr. is going to 1. answer my posts or 2. magically be online everytime I have a question.  But I can pretty much assume that at least one vet is :)

Okay.  This is me speaking to you as if you were 5:

How much time do you think surgeons spend learning about vitamins?

Rely on the folks who have studied and studied and studied vitamin issues for DSers.

Or you can take the vites your surgeon recommends and when your labs tank you can contact VitaLady who will tell you how to dig out of the ditch you drove yourself in to.
