E-NUFF!! You have been warned!!
Diana, I just want to thank you for continuing to at least give the first warning. You and the other "veterans" are such valuable resources. It amazes me that you continue to give generous time and support after so many years. I read everyday and hardly post but I am still gleaning valuable information from people like you.
I've noticed what you've noticed, too, Diana. Lots of people thinking veterans are steering people away from inexperienced or incompetent surgeons as a lark or on a whim. Who has time for that ****
Bariatric surgery is not a game, people! This is truly life and death.
Do your own goddam research. Look up their licensing, lawsuits, talk to his/her patients. Do not pester people here with your whining "well, he TOLD me that was in his past and now that he's on mood stabilizers or whatever, he's fine! He's doing my DS on Friday!"
Oh--and get this--I have just heard of someone who is hoping to have their DS with a particular surgeon *****cently had a DS death was actually HOUNDING the family and friends of the deceased person to try and get info on what happened. Inconsiderate and ghoulish, if you ask me! Selfish, too. Enough people have warned this person about the surgeon and this awful death should have sealed the deal but this person is so stupid and selfish that they are considering going forward with their surgery. How stupid can you be???? To them, I say "step right up. Hop right on that surgeon's table ASAP. You deserve what you get."
And also be advised that people on this message board cannot alays share with you things they know, for fear of lawsuits. One of the very worst DS surgeons--a sociopath-- routinely threatens people with lawsuits if they even breathe one bad word about him even on a message board. People, understandably, are reluctant to say anything about him. Take subtle hints as your warning, people! There are people on these boards that have long memories--use them to your advantage.
Complications--even death--can happen after ANY surgery with ANY surgeon. It's not necessarily a given that the surgeon is incompetent. But if you hear they are surgeons to avoid, maybe you should avoid them?? Duh.

I had the kick-butt duodenal switch (DS)!
HW: 344 lbs CW: 150 lbs
Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea GONE!
Didn't you get the memo? We're just a bunch of bitter biddy *****es with no life, so we torment anyone who doesn't instantly kiss our collective ass and do exactly like we do.
On a different subject, I waved at you during my little layover at O'Hare this afternoon. Then I sat on the far end of the ******g runway for an hour and 45 minutes waiting for traffic to clear. Remind me to NEVER fly through there again!

Actually, if you think about it, if they just chose a surgeon off the vetted list, they wouldn't have to DO any research and could rest easy in knowing that they had their back covered by those who have gone before.
And they wouldn't get called nasty names.

Well, the list is a good guide, a good starting point.
But until recently, there was a DS surgeon on there who everybody LOVED for a long time yet as time went on, I would not have trusted him to escort an old lady across the street, let alone do my DS. And then there's preference and local rumor to contend with. While the Chicago docs are on the vetted list, right in my own backyard, I opted not to go with them, but went to Rabkin all the way in San Fran instead. Dee-lighted with my choice.
Even with a good list in front of them, these fools should STILL do some critical thinking. If they cannot be trusted to use their brains on such a big decision, then maybe they do not have what it takes to be compliant for a bariatric surgery in the first place. In which case, I suggest about 10 more rounds of Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig. By then, their comorbidities will catch up with them and Darwin's ghost will be satisfied his theory really is true.
