I lost my taste for coffee and bread. While I liked both just fine pre-op, post op I just can't take more than a couple sips or bites before losing interest and not wanting any more. I definately crave proteins more now that I'm post op, especially fatty ones!
How about you guys? What did you loose your taste for post-op?

I was thankful to lose my taste for a lot of things. I knew I shouldn't eat simple carbs like bread but sometimes would be tempted to take a bite. After a couple of chews, I would think this taste isn't worth the grief and would transfer it to the tra**** was all for the better that I didn't want coffee for months. Who wants to irritate that new plumbing? And everything was too salty. What a great way to cut down on sodium! I didn't like milk anymore and suddenly loved vanilla soy milk which I disliked pre DS. All that changed after a few months except that I am salt sensitive. (good)

At first I was worried about losing my taste for a lot of things, but I agree that sometimes it works out for the better!
Bread, now that I think of it, was usually a vehicle for other things like butter, sandwich meats, or cheese. On it's own it doesn't taste very good, maybe with those supercharged post-op tastebuds the blandess of the bread can't be ignored.
It's funny, it's almost like the taste buds quickly learn to crave that the DS body needs :)

I think what got me about coffee early out was that it was hard enough to stay hydrated as it was, it felt like just a couple of sips of coffee made my mouth feel so dry I couldn't get enough water to make it stop. It still makes me feel like that now, unless I make "coffee milk" where it's a glass of milk with a few tablespoons of coffee in it :) I also notice the bitterness much more now.
With the mayo/miracle whipe and ceasar salad taste switch, does it seem like your tastebuds like savory things much more than sweet now?

The most notable food I lost the taste for and miss the most is steak. I still crave it from time to time, but not like before. I used to jump on steak like a meth head on meth. I would ALWAYS buy the biggest steak in the gracery store, and I'd eat every bite. Fat and all. And any leftovers anyone else had. Now I'll throw one on the grill and salivate over it the whole time. I lay it on the plate and after one to four bites.... I'm done. I cannot force down another piece. I almost hate it now. I guess I still mourn steaks in a way. I really get sad about it sometimes.
