Because I Said So!

There are protocols we subscribe to that are sometimes questioned," Where is the research supporting that?"and there aren't any scientific studies backing our claims.

Certain things we advise people to do firmly and with authority are strictly based on empirical knowledge. Beginning long before my time, earlier DSers figured out what worked through trial and error. Some things are just common sense, other things became written in stone because they worked consistently for most people time after time.

So, when veterans tell you to do some things, just do it. Because I said so.

I'm going to list a few. Feel free to pipe up with any others.

New post ops should work up to 90 grams of protein daily (to start) in the 30-60-90 timeline: 30 grams by 30 days, 60 grams by 60 days, 90 grams by 90 days.

Always use a vetted surgeon as found on DSFacts.com.

Begin taking vitamins according to Vitalady's list and adjust from there according to your labs.

Track your own labs and make your own adjustments. Don't trust your pcp to advise you appropriately on your levels.

Now do what I say or you'll be put on restriction!

Excellent!

Why...
Because we have been throught it, we have mourned unnessary passings, we have watch folks go to butchers to save 5 grand, only to go bankrupt at home getting fixed.  We have watched people flourish, we have witnessed those who have had problems and have been diligent enough to educate the rest of us.

That is all, I will let Kel dish out the punishment....

If you can do better than 30 protein grams in 30 days, 60g in 60 days, and 90g in 90 days, for goodness sakes do it!

Nothing wrong with supplementing with protein shakes.

Nothing wrong with not supplementing with protein shakes.

Fat is your friend in the long run but you may not want to start eating butter your first week post-op.

In your first month, staying hydrated is priority number one.

Food intolerances happen.

No matter what the nuts say, Kashi or Oatmeal are NOT good post-op mushie foods.    You'll crap a trail from your kitchen to your bathroom.   Trust me on this one.
