Late reply here.

I'm a sleeve patient who is very happy with my sleeve and my results. I say that to put the following advice in context:

There are a lot of successful band to sleeve revisions. I've noticed, though, that these tend to be people *****vised because of mechanical problems with the band (not uncommon) rather than for reasons of non-loss.

If your main problem with the band is non-loss, I would have serious concerns if another restriction-only operation is the right way for you to go. Is the sleeve a better surgery than the band? Absolutely yes! But restriction-only is NOT the answer for everyone. This revision may be your final shot, and that's a concern you really want to see addressed.

Since I wouldn't recommend an RNY to anyone, that leaves the DS, regardless of your current weight.

I wouldn't make any decision in your shoes until I had at least consulted with a qualified DS surgeon.
But Dr. Jossart is a qualified DS surgeon. And I know he's done the surgery on lightweights so I'm kind of surprised that he flat out refused to do it. (Or made it almost impossible for the OP to choose it, which is pretty much the same thing in my book.) Maybe he's changing his philosophy now that he's no longer with LapSF?

I know Dr Cirangle will do a DS on you. He doesn't believe it's his job to tell people what surgery to pick. He will probe you a bit to make sure you understand the implications of your choice and aren't hot on it because of some big misconceptions. But, in the end, it's up to you. Plus the fact that you only lost 30 pounds with a band is a red flag that the sleeve may not be enough for you.

Speaking of misconceptions... it really isn't fair to say a sleeve is "restrictive-only" as it's actually fairly metabolically active. In fact, it's more metabolically active than RnY! Surgeons think this is one reason why VSG patients often have similar WL results to RnYers even though VSG has no malabsorption. Of course, it's not as metabolically active as the DS.

I've heard time and time again from almost every single DS'er that the only regret we have is that we didn't do it sooner.

I was 198 before I was 300lbs. If I'd done it sooner, I'd have suffered so much less.

He wants to be famous for his sleeves. Go to another surgeon, preferably one from the list on www.dsfacts.com , but NOT to Husted, who for some reason has not yet been deleted from the list and who is about to resurface at his ninth or so relocation, in CA.

Go to the thread titled something like "Husted has disappeared again." Grammo very helpfully appears all of a sudden to let us know where he will be in CA. Google the name of the place (or maybe I did a reverse lookup on the phone number, I forget which) and you'll find the practice. His oh so charming mug is already up, along with a severely edited version of where he's been and what he's done.

My bmi was 35, and I had the ds, and all is well, several NYC doctors turned me away, stick with it.
