MiraLAX....when to use it?
DS on 03/12/12
I give the stuff to my son on a regular basis to keep him from fecal hording. Typically I give it to him mid-morning so start to take effect in the mid afternoon/early evening. I mix it with apple juice and stir like mad until you can see through the glass.
If your post surgical, you can probly mix it into a protein shake, yogurt or something similar. If you do, I'd suggest to mix it up and let it sit for a bit.
It works very gently but like the others suggested; I wouldn't use it unless you need it. Best wishes!

IMO there are other ways to prevent constipation. I didn't have ANY problems with constipation during the first 6 months or so....just the opposite.
Once I started having issues I started this program which has worked for me:
Magnesium Oxide with every Calcium dose
More water than the 64 oz recommendation EVERY day
Adding fat to my diet
Popcorn (with loads of butter of course).
I've been really lucky and this has worked well for me. I take A LOT of Calcium Citrate which is what causes some of us this problem IMO.
Calcium Hydroxyapetite is a form of Calcium that may be less constipating that Calcium Citrate and there has also been some anecdotal evidence here on OH that is is more absorbable.
For severe constipation VitaLady uses this formula:

If I was just starting to have constipation I would do this in this order:
Increase water and fat.
Add fiber (popcorn is my method
Add Magnesium Oxide
Then I would go to something like Colace next.
Good luck!!
