Post-Op Acne

Good Morning Everyone,

Did anyone start to get really bad acne post-op?  I started breaking out around my hairline 2 weeks ago thinking it was because of sweat/heat, and new oil I was using in my hair.  I stopped the new hair products and now my whole forehead is breaking out.

I was on dsfacts.com and read the article about acne and I take all my vitamin A and zinc.   I have been using facial cleansers, and astringent, and nothing works.  I have never broke out like this before.  Not even as a teenager.

Any suggestions??

Oh yeah, I went through the acne crapola too. What I found that helped me was increasing my water intake and I started supplimenting with 50 mg of zinc. I also used over the counter acne scrub for daily washing and used spot treatment for the stubborn zits. Luckily it did get better and I'm sure it will for you too, you just have to find the right combination of treatments/suppliments that work best for your skin type.

Yes!  Up your zinc and A and you should be good.  Even now if I think I can lower my zinc, the acne comes back. I take 100mg 3 times a day.  Good luck!

Thanks ladies.  I will up my zinc.  I take 50 MG 2x  a day, and  Vitamin A 25,000IU mid day, 50,000IU in the evening, and 25,000IU at bedtime.  Do you think that's enough Vitamin A, and I just need to increase my zinc?

I've seen people need 200,000 IU vitamin A and people that make it on none or 25,000 IU.  Too hard to tell without labs.

Could be plenty of things not related to vitamins, too--hormones, less water, etc.  If you're not taking zinc, you can add some, but I would be conservative until you have labs done.  Taking too much of certain vitamins can affect absorption of others.  This is all one big, complicated balancing act.

But, if you're pooping a lot (understandable for a new post op), your needs are increased.

I went through this and I read on here somewhere that low folic acid will cause acne.  I checked my B vitamin liquid and would you believe folate was the only B vitamin not included?!  I picked up some tiny folate pills and my acne was soon gone.  I also use those oxy pad things to exfoliate if I start to break out.  Check to make sure you are taking folate.

I dont have anything to add on the vitamin front but on the topical face stuff, i use benzoyl peroxide 10% (the 10% is important) i get my tube at the dollar general for $1 and it works wonders! can be drying so i only use it every other day or so.

Ance stinks so i hope your beautiful face clears up soon for you!!!

Hi.  We had our surgery the same date and I have the same problem. I am breaking out under my chin worse then my 14 year old son.  Lol.  I go to the doctor next week and was going to ask them.  I heard about the zinc but am not sure how much to take. Good luck and if you find anything that works please let me know.
