C Diff--when does it get better?

Ok, I have was diagnosed w c diff and have been on flagyl.  I will finish my round on Friday.  I am still having loose stools.  Not as bad, of course, but is that normal?  Anyone have some insights into c diff and their experience with it and Flagyl.   This is my first time with it, and it has been pretty awful.

(FWIW, the search mechanism turned up some stuff, but it kind of sucks, so thought I'd post!).

Thanks, y'all!

I would think you would need to retest?? I'm on flagyl right now and have loose stools as well. That can just be from an antibiotic.

Unfortunately, there is a very difficult to treat strain of C diff in the USA these days. If the flagyl clears you up, great. But if not, you will need either re-testing, or empiric treatment with vanco. If that doesn't work, sometimes multiple courses of the same drugs helps.
If THAT doesn't work, you should be under the care of an infectious disease specialist, who may prescribe anti-diarrheals that are usually used for "traveler's diarrhea" rather than for C diff. There are also clinical trials going on with monoclonal antibodies, because it's well known that the C diff bugs out there are both more virulent and more difficult to eradicate than they used to be, and we need more treatment options.
If all else fails, fecal transplant is usually very effective if you can get to a center that is doing it and get yourself past the yuck factor.

Thanks for the replies.  I already have an appointment to be retested for c-diff in about  week or two.  Then my doc plans on re-assessing.  So, I guess the best thing is just to wait a see a little bit.  I have upped all of my priobiotics and added an extra one (Florastor) that is supposed to fucntion on specific bacteria inherent to c-diff.  I am also having at least two servings of yogurt a day for now.  Hopefully I can get my poor digestive tract back on track soon.  So tired of this!  Thanks again for the replies!

is there anything one can do to avoid ever getting c diff? It really sounds horrible and I have only red about it a few times here and dont really understand how you get it. Is it from using antibiotics too much and building a tolerance?

Here is the link for the clinical trial on the antibody therapy.  It is not yet open, nor is there contact information listed yet.  Keep checking back if you are still having problems:

I was on flagyl from Feb. - June 2010. Then I was switched over to vancocin, and then back to flagyl for 2 weeks, and it was done. I never want to go through that again!
