Gosh, we sound like twins! I was thinking of getting those special wipes from cottenelle but do you think baby wipes would work? I just don't think they are flushable.

I'm going to give it a few more weeks to see if the PPI, calcium and Prep h works...if not it's off to the dr, even if it will be embarrassing as hell.

Thanks for the reply...it's appreciated!

I tried using the cottenelle wipes and the hemmroid wipes, etc... I just ended up stickin with plain wet paper towels and didn't flush them but put them in the garbage. When it was my worst the doctor suggested that after each BM you hop in the tub and do a quick wash down there. It is a must that it is kept clean or it will continue to burn. So I used soft toilet tissue to wipe and then would hop in tub but as it got better I just do a final wipe with a wet paper towel. I also had to have ice and a very cold wash cloth ready to hold down there after a BM or I swear I would have passed out.

You might want to make an appt now. I know it took me over a month to get an appt. These doctors are pretty busy and as luck would figure as soon as it was time for my appt I started to feel better (my friend went through this and told me this would happen) but I still kept my appt thank god.

It's a long road. It took me almost 6 months for the fissure to begin healing. Believe me I tried tons of products out there (even anal ease from the adult bookstore lol). The colorectal doctor gave me a prescription for a mixture of nitroglycerin and vasoline (the pharmist has to make up). You put a little pea size dot down there 3 times a day. He said the nytroglycerin helps to relax the muscle to let the fissure begin to heal. It does give you a head rush when you first take it and it gave me a bit of a tummy ache so I honed back on it.

There were many times I wanted to go to the ER (I have three kids and didn't have this much pain in labor) but from reading on here from other people it sounded like a big waste of time so I handled it on my own.

I would suggest staying diligent on keeping it clean and stay away from peanuts, spicy sauces, fritos, doritos,  even tomato sauces because anything acidy will cause it to burn down there. I feel for you. I practically used to cry the whole way into work. My butt hurt for quite a few hours in the morning and then as the day went by it would get better. That is the only thing that kept me going was knowing after a while as the day went on it would get a bit better.

Wow...thanks Lisa about the info on keeping it super clean. I travel a lot so I guess I better get some travel wipes to carry in my purse.

When I go home next week I will have to find a dr on my insurance. What specialist do you recommend? Colorectal or proctologist or pcp? I haven't z clue!

This is so damn embarrassing!

Kerry I started with a Gastroenterologist and after all the visits they have now referred me to a Colorectal Surgeon. We will see what they have to say but to be honest, I would absolutely get an appointment sooner rather than later. It seems to take forever to get in to see them.

Good luck!

Kerry, I am so sorry! I literally feel your pain. I had hemorrhoids before surgery but they were never bad. In the last 4 months, I had a fissure that healed on it's own and now a terrible thrombosed hemmorhoid. I would get thee to a Gastroenterologist before it gets worse.

Here is what they told me:
1. Use Sitz baths - sit in a bath as hot as you can stand it for 5-15 minutes at a time a few times a day. This will relax the muscles down there and reduce swelling.

2. Use Ibuprophen to reduce swelling.

3.  Keep clean - Don't use regular toilet paper, use Cottonelle etc (preferrably with no perfumes etc)

4. I am tried every cream known to man and Prep H and Plain Hydrocortisone helped but didn't heal me completely this time.

I am off to a follow up tomorrow and am pretty sure I have a fissure again. Even passing gas is painful right now. My BMs are not too soft and I am not constipated, they are surprisingly normal, can't really tell what the issue is.

Good luck!! Kj

Thanks for the info KJ. I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with the same stuff...its a pain in the ass (pun intended). I have a feeling I'm going to have to make an appointment with a specialist but I travel 4 out of 5 days so it's difficult.

I appreciate your ideas...will try the ibuprofen to reduce swelling and the baths in my hotel tonight.

Keep me posted on what your doc says. Good luck...hope it gets better soon!

I'm still pre-op so I can't give you any DS advice. I can, however, tell you that I suffer from terrible, horrible, unimaginable acid reflux since the birth of my son. The reflux triggered all kinds of horrible complications from chronic trapped gas in my chest to diarrhea up to 12 times a day every day until my doctor prescribed a medication that actually worked. Everytime I went to the bathroom, it felt like I was pooping battery acid, which felt like I had horrible hemorrhoids (and I don't have them.) Whenever I got my reflux under control, the pain went away. Do you have reflux issues? If not, the best way to go about relieving the discomfort is to eliminate the acid in your diet.

You have my sympathies. Definitely not a fun position to be in.

Thanks Erica. I'm going to try to increase my PPI to twice a day and see if that helps...I really want to stop this from becoming a fissure, that is, if it's not already one...yikes!

Erika,
What Acid Reducer worked for you? I am taking omeprazole but I am up to 60mg a day and still having issues. This just started in the last 2 weeks. It was controlled with 40 mg before that.

Boo Hiss! Kj

I'm taking Dexilant. In my opinion, it's a miracle drug.
