Do you eat cashews?

I am still in my 'maybe someday if  the insurance and /or money situation(s) improve'  stage of pre-op. But I have been slowly(very slowly and stubbornly) figuring out what foods don't agree with me....first went gluten, then went dairy, then went rice and corn.  Last month I finally realized(admitted) that cashews and I do not get along....loose stools, itching , burning,  a cutting type pain and a sideways stabbing with a blunt instrument(like a baseball bat) type pain..Tucks and ointments did nothing(TMI..I know)...the stabbing pain got so bad at one point I thought about going to the hospital.

Apparently the cashew shell contains something called  urushiol which is related to poison oak/ivy...supposedly the substance is removed during processing....whether it is removed or not..I am still reacting badly to them....the symptoms start half a day after I eat the first cashew and subside about 2 days after I eat the last cashew....and I tested it 3 times just to be sure...stupid I know, but I really didn't want to believe it....seriously how many foods can I lose in 2 years?!?!?

If you are eating the sunflower seed shells they could be causing some damage which could lead to a fissure.

They mention sunflower seeds specifically in this article.

Something I discovered back when one of my meds gave me very loose bowels.

Pampers - Sensitive Wipes.  They have them in regular and "thick".   They don't feel like you're wiping with sand paper.  Hypoallergenic etc.

Every bathroom in my home has them - write with a sharpie DO NOT FLUSH on the plastic box.  (Your house visitors will thank you) :)

To this day, I even carry around some in a small sandwich baggie in my purse.

Pick your surgery first, then your surgeon. Not the other way around.
PS:... Potato chips should be a food group.

I'm tired of screwing with that damn health widget.
I've lost 125 pounds to date!!!!
   And I'm UNDER 190 now!!!

I'm totally doing this!!! Going to go to cvs in the morning and pick some up.

Do you dry after you use them? I hate that wet feeling!

I'll be buying some in the morning! Thanks for the heads up.

Do you go wet or do you dry yourself afterward?

So many of us have been there - seems especially in the first year this is way too common.

What I did to combat mine (I lovingly called it Fire Ass):

1 - Upped my fiber - took a supplement every day.  Sounds weird, but it was my surgeon's recommendation, and it worked.

2 - Soak in Epsom Salts - as hot as you can get the water to be without burning yourself.

3 - I'll echo the wet wipes.

4 - If you have a removable shower head, do a thorough cleaning every time you take a shower.

5 - I carried around Cooling Gel (prep H) for years.

6 - My doctor prescribed a medicine called Proctofoam - that was very helpful.

7 - Sent my husband to the Adult Store for Anal Eze.  Oh was he happy about it LOL.  But when things got really bad, that numbing was well worth his trouble :)

Good luck.  I know it's horribly painful.
