  What size tummy and common channel did you recieve? Is there a norm or do surgeons what they feel is best for you?

  Thanks in advance!

My surgeon used a 40F bougie to do my stomach (no clue how big that is in ounces) and my CC is 125.

My common channel is 75cm and I am grateful for that every day.  At 11+ years out,  my malabsorption works extremely well,  and my stomach size is irrelevant as  my capacity for eating returned to pre-op levels several years ago.

I'm also planning to have DS with Dr. Gagner. Do you know if 75cm is his typical CC length, or was that something you specifically discussed with him? Does your shorter channel give you GI problems (diarrhea, gas, etc)? Feel free to PM me. Thanks.

 I had a 4 oz stomach (I'm sure it's bigger now - I just ate an entire plate of eggs baked with prosciutto, potatoes and cheese, LOL) and I have a 100 cc common channel.     I've lost to below goal and maintained well for five years.

My surgeon made my stomach a little bit less than 3 oz, and gave me a 75cm common channel. Your measurements will be totally dependent on your surgeon and their "normal", if they take into account your BMI, and a lot of other factors

My surgeon made my common channel 100cm.  I was told 100cm is average.  A longer common channel will results in less malabsorption and less of the gas/diarrhea side effects for most people.  A shorter common channel of course would cause greater malabsoprtion and increase frequency of loose stools and gas for most people.  Some surgeons do this on a case by case basis.  For example, my husband has a job (truck driver) where he can not easily access a restroom, so our surgeon plans to give him a longer common channel.  In turn, the longer common channel will slow his weight loss to about 1 to 2 pounds a week average.  He will still lose excess weight, but his restroom needs will be less.

He made my stomach/sleeve a 34F (french)  Bougie,  which holds about 3 ounces.  The average adult stomach is about 10 inches long.  Take the bougie size (such as 34) divide by pi (3.14) and you get the diameter of the stomach:

32F = 10.19mm

34F = 10.82mm

36F = 11.46mm

38F = 12.10mm

40F = 12.73mm

46F = 14.65mm

60F = 19.10mm

Mine was done using the Hess method. My stomach started out around 5 oz. My alimentary limb was made to be 40% of my total intestinal length and my biliopancreatic limb, 60%. The common channel of 75 cm is part of the alimentary limb.

I was told that my common channel is 80 cm and my stomach is between 2-3 oz (I'm just over a month out and it feels like I can certainly eat and drink a heck of a lot more then that though).

I'll be receiving my OR report soon so I can know for sure.
