**** & Moan: I started my 2 week liquid diet today!
Gum!! How could i forget. Another way to sate my craving for flavor and fruits. I've been chomping down on Trident's Apple Pineapple gum like it's going out of fashion!
Just yesterday I was contemplating why they don't make bacon cheese burger flavored gum as they do the potato chips! It'd be a great pre-bariatric op hit!!

I hated the liquid diet. I hated myself, and the entire world while I was on it. I had to drink this overpriced crap that we purchased from our surgeon's office. It gave me terrible diarrhea, so I called the nut and she determined that I was probably lactose intolerant. She told me I could try Atkins or Slim Fast shakes. The Atkins shakes filled me up a bit more, but I was still a ***** to anyone that dared to cross my path for those two weeks. I "cheated" just a bit every day by making egg drop soup. That bit of extra protein really helped me make it through without killing someone. Plus, I figured I'd lose like 20 pounds. I lost ten. Oh well, I guess that's ten pounds less than when I started, but still, it was a pain. I empathize!!!

To my knowledge, there is NO evidenced-based reason for putting bariatric patients through this torture. There is NO data that it improves outcome. At best, as far as I can tell, the reduction in liver volume makes things "easier" for the surgeon (and there is no evidence that makes any difference other than psychological).
In your shoes, I would probably either challenge the surgeon to medically justify putting you through this torture, or just not do it. But that's just me, and I'm somewhat more used to challenging my doctors. I don't mind being compliant with requirements that are justified, but this one just seems to be fatty-hating.

I had to do the whole shebang in March for my colonoscopy - OMG, it was awful.
Anymore, if I don't eat within a few hours of getting up, I get diarrhea, cramps, and let's not even talk about being HANGRY. I did my yearly blood draw on Tuesday, and they didn't get done with me until 11:30 AM, so I was nearly 12 hours without eating, and I had already spent the morning pooping my guts out.
My body is now like Audrey the Plant from Little Shop of Horrors: "FEEEEED MEEEE!!!"

I was on my liquid diet for 3 weeks and I thought I was going to go crazy. One thing that helped me was mixing my protein powder in with water and ice in the blender, to make it a thick milkshake. It was A LOT more filling, and I didn't feel like I was still starving after drinking it. If it wasn't for that, I don't think I could have made it through.
