You do that, now. Spiegel will get you your DS in record time. But don't come here for the education he won't give you.

Dudette,

The people here are trying to help you. You may not like their delivery but it may help to know that they have been on these boards for years and have seen what can happen to people with even vetted surgeons. I hope Larissa will be along to post or that you search her out to discuss this with her.

Any monetary or convenience savings you may realize by going to a non-vetted surgeon will quickly dissipate with even a minor complication. What happens if you have a major complication? Although going with a vetted surgeon is no guarantee it does lesson the chance of complications.

Why are you so set on Mexico (and against Ungson)? If you are willing to travel that far why not consider Brazil or Spain? Have you researched the self-pay rates for American doctors?

There is a lot of valuable information to be found here. I hope you don't make the decision to cut yourself off from it.

You've gotten feedback, consistent feedback, but don't seem to want to "hear" it.

Yes, many of us have heard of Dr. Aceves.  I have NEVER heard of him performing a DS, NEVER.  Many of us have been around here for years, so you're on your own there.  We KNOW Dr. Ungson, his patients, his immediate & longer-term outcomes ---- thus the reason your are being referred to him over & over.  You're call.  We don't give a **** about websites around here, we care about DS results.  OK?  OK.  Now, quit asking.

Want to drive your BMW down to Mexico?  Take lots of pictures before you go and be prepared to never see it again.  Oh, and good luck getting replacement insurance on it for Mexico.....

So, for those of us that HAVE HAD A DS LAP, NONE of us would have driven back from Mexico to Minnesota.  There is a very young Ungson patient who did RIDE back, from Las Vegas (I believe) to Seattle, and had lots of fun along the way.  Not likely to hear from her, as she is off on a mission trip in Uganda right now.  She had not one negative thing to say about her experience with Ungson, his staff, or the hospital, btw....    Oh, and she was down there more than once, being a very high risk patient (for reasons I won't get into), and Ungson was amazing with her in so many ways.  What he did for her still touches me, and I am not easily impressed.

So, do whatever the hell you want.  Just make sure you report back here how it all went!  We are always looking for new DS surgeons to keep an eye on & endorse..... and if not that, at least some entertainment at the expense of some idiot who just wouldn't listen to common sense.

I was telling my son, the cop, about this one.  He said, "she will be coming back on a donkey and will be lucky if they don't pull her over with guns to get that car, lol"..

Yea, and the guns?  They are BIG!  Semi-automatic & automatic weapons.  She would be lucky to come back on a donkey, that would be stolen within a hundred miles of the boarder, and within 25 miles of the boarder she would be kidnapped for ransom (and still be killed).  But, hey, what do I know about traveling in Latin America?

You would be the EXPERT!

She doesn't want to learn anything, she is just here to see who will validate all her lame-ass plans.  Whoever doesn't do that is a "meanie".  LOL

She took a good two-plus weeks to do it, too :-).

As others have mentioned, for the DS there is NO other qualified surgeon in Mexico. Others have tried with horrifying results. You are being handed the wisdom accumulated over YEARS of research. Don't be an idiot and ignore it.

You will not be able to drive while using pain meds and you will need them for at least a week.

Rena drove to Phoenix with a friend, then took the 1 hour flight to Hermosillo. Coming back, the friend drove and they had a lovely leisurely trip back to WA along the coast with many stops for sight seeing along the way. Your plan could work the same way, but you would need a companion to do the driving for you. Every little bump in the road hurts and it's hard to hold a pillow to your stomach while driving.

I wouldn't make any non-refundable plans for dental work afterwards. The DS feels like you've been hit by a Mack truck and just getting into and out of a dental chair could prove problematic. I'd save that for another trip when you've healed.
