These might be dumb questions...
It totally depends on your surgeon. I've never heard that they're removed to "make more room" for the surgeon. What I did read a lot before I had my DS was that quite a few people end up having to have their gall bladders removed later on because of the development of stones. I *personally* didn't want to have to deal with the possibility of stones, or having to go through another surgery later, so I asked my surgeon to remove my gall bladder and appendix while he was in there, and he did. My surgery was done lap. I don't really think he would have removed them (unless there was a problem with them) unless I had asked.

You really don't want any 'extra room' in your abdomin. Things have a tendancy to slide around and get in trouble. (*grin*)About 33 years ago, I had to have a hysterectomy. I went to a second opinion doctor before I did. He had language skills that caused MANY patients not proficient in English to go to him. He sat down next to me on the exam table and put his arm around me and said, "Do you hve any idea how easy your husband has made this for me? I spend a bit of time several days a week, trying to explain to men who have no IDEA how the human body is assembled, that yes, the wife will still be a woman and no, there won't be a big empty space left when I remove the uterus."
My surgeon does not typically remove both organs during weight loss surgery. I requested that he do so, and I was self pay and had to pay extra for the OR time and for the biopsy of the GB. It was worth it to me not to have to worry about GB issues later down the road that seem to often plague WLS patients.
