My understanding is that carbonate isn't really good for anyone, not just us rerouted folks. If you want to use up what you have, I guess that's ok but look for calcium citrate w/magnesium and D3 at the store. If you don't see what you like there, most drug stores carry Citracal Maximum that have the combo of cal cit, mag & D. I think there's an equivalent to Citracal at COSTCO or Sam's Club too. At the health food store look for dry D3 in 5,000IU doses. If you look for iron, look for carbonyl, heme or polysaccharide iron. You want to take iron only with vitamin C and not around other vitamins, calcium, dairy, whole wheat, eggs or caffeine. Iron as a weakling and can't compete against a whole lot of other things.

Okay I put those on my shopping list. I did read about not taking iron with anything else except Vit C. So maybe taking that at night before bed might be the best idea.

 You are still preop, yes?

Your labs look essentially "normal" for a preop, other than your cholesterol.  However, to prepare for your upcoming surgery, you will want to boost a few areas preemtively.  Those would be your protein markers (total protein, albumin, ect) and your HDL (good cholesterol).  I would also strongly advise you to get a full vitamin/mineral panel so you know if there are any deficiencies or lows there that need attention prior to surgery.  It is MUCH easier to pull yourself up now, and remember, you WILL be running off your body's stores for a bit of time in the immediate postop period, so you want to be nice and high normal on everything.  At the very least, I would be doing one-two protein shakes a day, eating lots of fatty fish, taking a really good fish oil, WALKING for 30 minutes a day (this will help boost your HDL too), taking a complete multivitamin, calcium & dry vitamin D3.

thanks for the tips. I will definitely ask Dr. Selwyn when I see him Tuesday if he can order the vitamin/mineral panel as well then.
