For those concerned about Fish Zole REALLY being Flagyl

I opened up my new jar of Fish Zole then ran the markings, coloring and shape through the pill identifier and come up with this:

Yep, generic Flagyl. That picture is EXACTLY what I have.

 Hi Larissa,
Sorry, I must have missed the original thread. Are you saying you can buy over the counter generic Flagyl antibiotics? What dose are you taking and is this an ongoing thing? I've never taken Flagyl. Is this to stop gas?

It's not to be taken lightly. I've spent months carefully watching my diet, taking good probiotics, etc, and it's clear I need the big guns because I have extremely smelly gas and stools. To the point of really alienating those around me!

There is an overgrowth of bad bacteria in my gut, and I'm going to kill it with a round of Flagyl, then rebuild the good bacteria again with Garden of Life Primal Defence Ultra probiotics.

I've done my research and not going into this blindly, but there are risks, such as the possibility of anti-biotic resistant C-diff down the road. So, again, this isn't something you just go do on a whim. I'm going about this very carefully, and only as a last resort!

You can buy just about any antibiotic OTC labelled for a different species, and its veternarian grade, which really isn't all that different than human grade, and as posted they pretty much look the same as well.  Fishmox is amoxicillin,  Bird Biotic is doxycycline and on and on.  I keep well stocked up on antibiotics, even have injectable penicillin.  I use it for the chickens/animals of course but it can be used on humans in a pinch.

WOW! I have to say I have never heard of this before. How can you be sure it's safe for humans? Is the quality different or something? Just sounds scary to me! How do you know when to treat yourself with an antibiotic and which one would be best? Do people take Flagyl (Fish Zole) as a regular medication? Like a daily vite?

In my case, the veternary version of metronidazole (Flagyl) is actually the human version relabled and re-packaged for fish so I'm good.

Just out of curiosity - will your doctor not prescribe it for you?  And if not, why not?  Not flaming, just curious as to why he/she won't.
