Let's prepare an ER info package that slam dunks the idiots we might encounter
I REALLY like this one! I like the "medalion" one for a keychain. Hmmmm, maybe to get one for all of my DS family members? :)
I am pre opt but I have a lot of medical problems and have been trying to figure out how to keep things together in case of emergency after surgery because no one know what DS is thanks for this post I will be book marking it so I can know what need to be on jump drive and folder.

Dear EN you *****
You may have saved my life. Who the hell can predict the future? Since I live alone I don't even have anyone who can tell someone that I am allergic to PCN much less explain my DS.
For Christmas I am giving myself the gift of piece of mind. I am ordering this: www.n-styleid.com/super-flash-usb-medical-flash-drive.html because I think it is the most obvious medical drive I've seen.
I can attach it to my purse or key chain which is always with me.
I can put on it what I want put on it. It also has a place for paper for the stuff I would want an ENT to know like I'm a DNR and an organ donor (which could be contradictory I am aware.)
So thanks for starting this thread. This is probably one of the most concretely helpful threads I've seen in a long time.
And btw, last time I checked this thread was nearing 4 pages long and had over 600 hits.
Happy Holidays. I am counting days to (and saving pennies for) Montana 2011.

Thanks, EN. I struggle with this.
I carry around a flash drive with a bunch of DS info on it (my operative report, my supplement regime, my lab spreadsheet and a diagram and info from DS facts). But it is in my purse, and if I were unconscious, I doubt anyone would know it's there. I also have a medical alert card that I got from Sarah B in a prominent place in my wallet. That would likely be discovered. And my husband and mother are well-schooled on the DS and what my care entails.
I think the idea of a jump drive/ID bracelet is a good one in theory...but I have to be honest, I'm not sure it's for me. I have no medical problems other than my DS and food allergies. I'm not sure that either is significant to warrant the intrusiveness of having to wear a big flashing "medical alert" everywhere I go. Every client or work interaction, every person I meet would see that. Not sure it's worth it for the rare chance that I'd end up unconscious somewhere AND with a medical issue that requires immediate and in-depth knowledge of the DS. Gotta think about it some more....

I lost my mother in October of 2009, at age 82. Her passing came after two years of poor health including numerous trips to the emergency room. One of the most difficult aspects of those unfortunate trips was searching her apartment or looking through her purse for her ever changing list of medications and dosages. Over the course of her many hospitalizations, at least 3 significant medicine and dosage mistakes were made, mostly due to her poor handwriting. Since my mother's death I have been wondering what could be done to make caring for a loved one easier. I have teamed up with Dr. Scott Rifkin to help develop The Life Protector. I believe, with great conviction, this product can help save lives, prolong lives and make difficult times more bearable for close family members. This simple device provides some peace of mind for the elderly and their family. You now can have some confidence is your spouse, parents or grandparents are traveling, home alone, or in the care of others. The Life Protector is simple, effective and accurate. We guarantee it. Just return The Life Protector to us for a full refund (less shipping) if you are not satisfied in any way.
