Complications?

Hi,

I am new to the message boards and have not had the opportunity to chat with many other DSers.
My surgery was recently on 10/25/2010 and I have endured several set backs. I have been hospitalized 3 times since surgery the second admission ungoing another surgery to have my gallbladder removed. I have erosions in my esopogus and my stomach and the last hospitaliation I was dsiagnosed with pancreatitus.  I currently have a PIC line in my arm and am getting nutrition via this PIC line 12hrs a day.

Has anyone else had any of these complications? Does it get better from here?
I haven't had a bite to eat since before my initial surgery. It is a little scary!

The level of complications that you are experiencing is highly unusual based on my couple of years of experience on this board.  Nobody really knows whether they're going to be one of the unlucky ones who have complications - immediately or down the road.  I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a rough time of it.  I hope the worst is behind you & that you rapidly feel better.  Again, just going by odds - chances are very good that the worst is behind you.  Hugs to you!  Feel better soon.

I actually spoke personally to the OP today.  She had never heard of OH and joined when I told her what a wonderful support system this is.

Welcome to the boards, so glad you found us and I hope that the information that is here may help you along your journey.

I am so sorry that you have had these complications.  I'm sure it's not what you hoped for and I do hope you will get some help for the issues you are experiencing.  There have been some patients report complications, some are relatively minor (although they may not feel that way to person suffering them!) to pretty major.

Hang in there, I hope the worst is behind you.

I am truly sorry I jumped the gun so to speak on your post. It is rare that a person get**** like you have so early out. It does happen and my prayers are with you while you are going through this horrible time. Oh is the best place to find the help and support you need and I once again am sorry I posted a rude comment. You have humbled me. Peace, Karen

Oh dear, I'm sorry things are still so rough for you. Yes, there are a number of folks around who have had these kinds of issues. You might need to repost a time or two in order to get their attention.

One lady who comes to mind is Alla....can't remember her exact user name. Maddie aka Renfairewench is another, but she's just had a mega surgery at Penn, so will not be online for a while.

I hope some other folks show up soon, either people who've actually had such issues or people who can point you in the direction of such individuals.

Welcome, Charlene. I'm so sorry to hear of all the dificulties you've experienced. I'm also an Abington/Dr. G patient. I'm glad Ellen encouraged you to get online here. These people are lifesavers, literally. I'd also encourage you to get involved with the local PA DSers. We have a good group. I'm curious about the erosions in your esophagus/stomach. Does Dr. G have a theory about why those formed? Did he see anything out of sorts at your pre-op EGD? Gallbladder removal following WLS is fairly common, though I'm surprised you needed yours removed so quickly post-op. Were there any signs of gallbladder problems pre-op? I hope things smooth out for you soon.
