Gastroparesis anyone?

Has anyone experienced this condition after their DS?
I had my DS about 18 months ago and I have had a wonderful digestive system since!
However, I needed to have my gall badder removed 3 months ago.
3 weeks ago, I started having bowel/intestinal issues.  I feel bloated and full all of the time.  I was thinking perhaps my DS has finally setted in and maybe my issues with irritible bowel pre-DS have returned :(
I noticed that even when I eat, I am consuming much less food and feeling way too full way too quick.  Almost like I was when I first came out of surgery.  I feel like I am not digesting food, that its stting like a rock in my stomach for hours on end.  ( The only time I ever felt this way was when I had food poisening, but a few hours later that came up. )
I am not nauseated, and I am passing gas and having the occasional BM, its just taking 5 days which you can imagine what I feel like.  I have tried stool softeners, eating graesy foods etc, etc. nothing has done the trick. I thought maybe I had an obstruction and when  I went to see my PCP on Tuesday and she prescribed me Flagyl which actually worked to "unclog" me.( unfortunatley only for one day ) because I was hoping maybe it was some kind of bad bacteria that screwed up my flora.

I also have MS, and im wondering if this is a symptom or relation to all the issues I have been having with that disease flare-ups for the past few months.  I have never presented this before with my MS, and I hope if it is MS related that it is just intermittantand once my exacerbation settles so will this.
I have read that sometmes removing the GB can cause this, if so, does it generally happen later on, or whenever it wants?
I have read that it can happen just because youve had surgery etc. I am sure there are a million reasons, I am just so uncomfortable and do not want to eat to avoid all this.

Has anyone experienced this since surgery?  If so, can you tell me how it is treated? Are there medications for it?  What do you do to relieve symptoms?  I am desperate.

I don't know anything about gastric paresis but if constipation is the problem then here is Vitalady's plan for that: www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/4276854/Vita-Ladys-constipatio n-program/

You can also surf back through this site and see many many threads on constipation.

I take a mag oxide cap with each of my 5 calcium doses per day which keeps me from getting constipated.  But as you can see by VitaLady's plan other people have to do a whole lot more than that. :puppydog:

Thank you, but constipation doesnt seem to be the problem, it seems like digestion.  When I eat and 6-8 hours later I eat again and take 2 bites and still feel ful from before, it seems like the food is not digesting.  Its the most uncomfortable thing.   I'm concerned because I dont want to not be able to eat anything and just live off of protein shakes.  I need to be able to digest.
Always something :)  Silly Belly!
I never thought id say i do not want to lose any weight.  it makes me laugh cause I wonder why this never happened before WLS :)

MS is so confusing! Normally I would say that removing the gall bladder wouldn't cause gastroparesis, but MS can certainly cause it, and maybe having major surgery and general anesthesia has thrown things off.
Have you spoken with your neurologist?

Larra,

I see him on Thursday. ( He's a three hour drive, I followed him when he moved and havent found anyone else closer to home i like as much, its just  hard in cases like this. )  I have hard a horrible fall with my MS.  This is the worst I have experienced and thats why I think maybe it is related to this whole fiasco.
I have had a bunch of new symptoms and never thought about this being an issue because he generally asks me of urinary incontinence, not bowel issues.
i had my GB removed in August.  I wanted it removed originally because of the MS issues but the surgeon refused.  ( This is the EXACT reason why I wanted it taken out because if it is going to go bad, it will in my case, lol )
I have already been on a course of steroids in Septmber and I just can't catch up.  The weather seems to have had a lot to do with it as well.  Mold and such.

I felt good after my GB removal, I bounced back and was out and about.  It didnt hit me until mid-late sept.  I have never experienced a season like this, and had no MS complications from the DS, so maybe its a combo, i dunno.

I hope the neurologist will have an answer for you, or that it will mysteriously resolve on its own, as things sometimes do with MS.

What about calcium?  I know for me calcium acts like cement in my system.  I've got to take my calcium with prune juice, and even then I have to take Mag Oxide to keep things moving.

I know what you're saying about the "still full" feeling.  Maybe you developed a stricture after the gall bladder surgery?  I'd consult with your DS surgeon.  Did he take out your gall bladder?  Or did a different surgeon?  If it was a different surgeon, did he mess with your DS?

I.  am.  not.  a.  doctor.

Hi, welcome to my life!!!

I started having issues after a car accident a year ago.  Prior to that, I was mostly happy, regular pooping, regular eating DS'er.  Now, I have debilitating constipation and nothing I've tried seems to help on any regular basis.  It just has a mind of its own.

I have seen multiple GI's and even sought a second opinion from another DS surgeon.  My new GI cultured my stool and found C-Diff.  So, that was really puzzling as most C-diff patients poop 15-20 times a day.  My problem was constipation and bloating and also feeling full after eating.  I expressed this to the GI and he thinks I probably do have a mild form of gastroparesis (in addition to IBS-C caused by adhesions and a lazy bowel) but that it's more likely that I'm backed up so much that it's making it hard to eat.  I notice after I have a good clean out, I can eat more and things seem to move through okay.

Right now I am about to finish up Flagyl for the C-Diff and will imediately start on Xifaxin 500 mg.  I also take 10mg of Reglan every night before bed and this really seems to help my stomach and small intestines do their jobs.  I have not suffered any ill effects of Reglan on this dose at it is a very low dose. I still sometimes get nauseated so I'll take Zofran in that case.  If I find myself unable to eat due to "fullness", I go back to liquids.  It's the only thing that my stomach can pass without effort.  So, Greek yogurt and protein shakes primarily.

I am also having a HIDA scan on Tuesday to check my bilio limb and how bile runs through it.

I cannot speak as to the impact of MS with your symptoms, so I won't give my opinion on that, but it does seem like it could come into play into the picture with smooth muscle activity.

Feel free to PM me.  I sincerely feel your pain.  It's awful.  I stay off the boards a lot now because I'm not the normal, happy DS'er like everyone else seems to be and I don't want to **** in everyone's Lucky Charms.
