OT- Gay Politics and Family Dynamics

You're a great mom, it sounds like!  I hate to say it but it really does feel like there's an entire generation that there is no way we're going to change and unfortunately, will have to wait until they die to get rid of a large portion of that sort of intolerance.  My mom is the same way towards my gay friends and there really is no way to reason with her.  Much of it will die with this generation and with mom's like you, the next generations will become more and more accepting.  So thanks for doing your part!

Ignorance knows no bounds. Your come to Jesus (so to speak) moment with your ex-mother-in-law should likely take one of the two forms:

1) YOU are going to be dead soon. Do you want to spend what little time you have left alienating your granddaughter, who loves you?
2) (Harsher) Look, you stupid **** you've failed at raising your own kids, and now you're driving away a granddaughter who loves you over petty bull**** You're NOT going to change who she is, because she was born that way and she knows I support her 100%. Keep your idiot opinions to yourself and take advantage of the unconditional love this girl is offering you.

Sounds like you have done a fabulous job as a mother. :) Be proud! Your daughter will adapt and keep learning to deal with your MIL's bull****

BLR - I had NEVER heard the term "come to Jesus moment/meeting" until I moved down south, heh.

Ha!!  Technically, I was raised in the North (Cincinnati, Ohio), but it's far enough South that I had already had "Come to Jesus" and "Y'all" down pat before I moved here.

I am so sorry that your daughter is going through this. I really don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about this. What possible difference can it make who she loves? Isn't it more important that she can, and does, love someone?
