Lactose intolerance and Lactaid milk vs. half & half or heavy cream

In the beginning, I was so lactose intolerant that even Lactaid gave me DHR. Half and Half does have some lactose in it. (Heavy cream even has a tiny bit, but I did okay with that.)

I did Heavy Cream watered down in place of milk, and that's what I'd suggest. (Or soy milk or almond milk.)

Now that I am no longer lactose intolerant, I love the Hood Calorie Countdown low carb milk, but it's definitely not for the lactose intolerant.

I use the Walmart brand of lactose-free milk at home, with no issues.  The other night at work, I was totally craving a cup of coffee, and put some half & half in it, and had really bad gas pains afterward...so no more half & half for me.  I think everyone is different in their (in)tolerance - the only things that really affect me badly are milk and ice cream.  Cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese don't give me problems at all.  I haven't tried using the pills, just avoid the stuff that gives me issues.  I've also not been a total carb-watcher - I usually have one cup of lactose-free milk a day split between my two protein shakes.

I use all three.  My lactose intolerance has gotten better with each passing month.  Most of us are lactose intolerant after surgery.  It is a by product of cutting the small intestine.   For most, this improves with time.  Some will always be lactose intolerant.

I have not found that half and half bothers me, as it is very low lactose, same with heavy cream.   There are times I prefer the Lactaid whole milk.  I prefer it with some things.  Sometimes I just want a glass of milk.   The carbs are not high enough for me to worry about.
