Lactose intolerance and Lactaid milk vs. half & half or heavy cream

Can somebody help me with this?  I seem to have developed a lactose intolerance since my surgery.  I have been using Lactaid milk, but half & half has almost no carbs.  Does anybody know about the lactose content of half & half?  Also, I think I saw somebody recommend heavy cream for lactose intolerance.

So what would be the best choice out of the three of these?

Thanks in advance!

I was so lactose intolerant at first that I only had soy milk and almond milk.  Now I take Digestive Advantage Lactose Intolerance, 1 every morning and I am able to have milk products.  I think that the 1/2 & 1/2 and heavy cream will depend on how bad YOUR lactose intolerance is.  From what I have seen on the boards it is variable from person to person.

There are a few others on the board that have tried the Digestive Advantage and have gotten great results.

Thanks Michele!  I'm going to check it out.  I tried the Lactaid chewables and they were HORRIBLE!

I second the suggestions to try Digestive Advantage for Lactose Intolerance!!

Darlene recommended it - and it's made a world of difference in my life!

Hope you find what works for you.  :-)

I pick mine up at WalMart - for about the same price....... in case you run out some time - you might check your local WM out. :-)

It depends on what I'm doing with it.  I use whipping cream in my coffee at home, half-and-half when we're out.  If I were going to eat oatmeal in a restaurant...I'd use their half-and half.   But at home, on the rare occasions that I eat any kind of cereal--and maybe if I were making a cream soup--I'd do Lactaid milk.

What about for making shakes at home?

Hmmm...I haven't had a glass of milk since about 1957 or so...and because of that, haven't had much milk to makes shakes out of at home.  Sorry.

I third the vote for Digestive Advantage! I used Lactaid for a couple of years, I wish I would have known about the DA earlier! I get it at either Wal-Mart or Walgreens.

However, to go back to your other question, before I started taking the DA, if I had heavy cream or half-and-half, it didn't do me as badly as regular milk, but still caused some issues.

Good luck!
