Dustin, I had wondered what had happened with you as I hadn't seen you around in a while. I don't have any advice but wanted you to know I am thinking about you and hope you feel better soon.

Good luck! Kj

Get one of the docs when they make rounds to give you a script for Protonics, if that doesn't work get another one to write you a script for Prilosec, if that doesn't work get another one to write for Acephix, et****il you hit one that will work for you.  I used to do 12 hours shifts and our docs would write for you and your kid if they trusted you.  No narcotics but for stuff like acid reducers yea.  I haven't had DS yet but it sounds like you need help!  If it takes maxing your credit card out then do it and get another one and max out if you have too.  We do this surgery for our health and it sounds like yours backfired so you need a second opinion.

As a fellow nurse believe me I KNOW how hard it is to ask for help.  We are the ones who help others.  Please seek out another DS surgeon who is reputable and get help.

Well wishes.

Ok here it is honey:

Normal Recovery:                                                                 Abnormal Recovery:

- Laproscopic site pain haematomas                      -smelly discharge, green pus, lots of frank
can and often form around these sites and             bleeding, red striking/stripes on the skin
cause a burning pain on movement like a               heat and swelling (infection signs)
Hernia.

_ severe reflux.  You'll need Prisolic                      -Food being stuck constantly, fluid not able to
40mg disolvable daily and Peptac                          pass through your stomach. This is an
of Gavisone or the like for break through                obstruction.
during the evenings.  Nothing else will help
you NEED a proton pump inhibitor
your stomach is HALF the size or less but still
producing the acid of a normal gut so it will
follow the path of least resistance
your esophagus.  It gets better by month 2 and is
almost utterly resolved for most by month 3.

-Dehydration and ketosis.  You must force yourself  -Kidney pain and passing bloody urine
to drink at least 3-4 pints of fluid a day by sipping       signs of a uriteric trauma likely kidney stone.
the entire day long.  If it means getting up earlier        Very dark urine post op.  Can be a sign of
to sip then do it.  Fluid intake with a twist of lemon      rhabdomyalgia which is potentially
juice will stop formation of kidney stones.                      life threatening and causes by muscle
trauma i.e. being morbidly obese under GA
in a fixed position without pressure area
                                                                                                 care.

To me it sounds like you have had a massive amount of surgical trauma and need time off work to recover.  You need to be very focused on getting in protein rich soups and thin fluids to meet your requirements.  You've already landed in a world of hurt by severe dehydration i.e. uriteric stones.    Belly rumbling is NORMAL for us.  It will get better once you get some live yogurt down there.  You're bowel flora and stomach pH are all over the shop.  You are effectively starving.

You're abscess is a cause for concern.  You need to look hard for signs of sepsis which is a decreased urine output, temperature, rigors (shaking from a high temperature), your heart fluttering of beating oddly, sickness and nausea, severe weakness and confusion.

So your dip **** surgeon let you get so dehydrated you went into crisis, ****** up your suture line and gave you a hernia, obviously split your gallbladder or the like and gave you an infective abscess, you got what I assume is actelasis i.e. a fluid collection in your lung lining that required an inter-costal catheter to drain so your lung didn't collapse?  Either that is very bad ventilation or bad nursing, either way you were left to lay in bed without moving too long.  You probably had a measure of ventilator acquired pneumonia if they managed to be that negligent across the board.

The fact is you were put through the mill.  The care was NOT up to par with so many inter-operative complications and so many post-op interventions.  I would contact the Clinical Services manager of the Hospital and ask for a Critical Case review of your notes.

Now the guts NOW.  I spewed up nearly every new thing I tried for the first month and a half.  When your nose drips, or you hiccup or sneeze your gut is FULL...your vagus nerve is tripped and you must STOP eating or drinking.

You have edema of your digestive track and this will take some time to go down.  Be kind and push fluids and fluids and fluids.  If you can't tolerate solids then don't eat them.  Soup kept me alive for the first few months.  I would make very rich broths then blend the suckers.  Eventually I stopped blending them and worked up the grading of meat in them until I was eating solids and tolerating them.

Take it easy.  Take time off work and rest and recuperate.  Make sure the board knows who did this to you so others can make informed surgical decisions on care and follow up.

Good luck. xx

RIP Mickie aka Happychick.  You will be missed deeply.

Hey Van,
I talked with Z before his surgery and he knows the crap I went thru. He knew the odds going in and made a choice. You are absoluitely the onlypersonI know to do well with Dr W. God was sure on your side that day as so many others were lost under his care.

Yeah, Jesus was walking with me.  It's scary to know there were others who have had serious complications with him.
