Well, then start drinking or crying because I don't see how I can be any clearer.

I said that they mentioned in a group email that they didn't get adequate dental care that they wished they could get where they were living in Scotland. The group email was to a group I belong to hat is not related in any form or fashion to OH. I said if that was the kind of basic care that was to be had, I'll stick to the system we have in this county available to us. It may not be the best but even those who self pay can get good care, I know because I was self pay dental care for over 20 years, and not just routine checkups but crowns and fillings, etc.

If that isn't clear enough, I am not continuing any longer. Go ahead and start drinking/crying.

Okay, it's a litttle too early to drink so I'll have another go at it.

Yes...you told us all that.  Exactly that.  You wrote:

A friend of mine lives in Scotland. I finally met here in real life and was shocked to see just how bad her teeth were. Both her and her husband's. The only time I have seen teeth that bad here has been on individuals who have not seen a dentist at all. I don't consider what I saw on her "basic dentistry" care. More like ignoring the problem hoping they go away.

If that is an example of Basic care, I'll take ours thank you very much. And I didn't have dental care for about 20 years but made it a point to go to the dentist anyway and paid out of pocket.

Now...where do YOU say that your friends ALSO said...on that other group that we can't see...they they WANTED more care?

That should have been the most important part of your post..."my friends want better care and can't get it."  But you never went there.  You just mentioned their ugly teeth and that you'd prefer our SYSTEM to theirs...which is meaningless without mentioning that they are not getting the care they need, if that is your point.

Now I'm done.

I  too have lived in coutries with socilized medince.....it isn't pretty and sanitation is the first thing that will go out the door.  People will soon be dying in waiting rooms or becuase they have an incovient disease sent home to die.

Uh...what???? I am currently covered under socialized medicine in what most consider to be a third world country and, after an extended stay in one of the public hospitals, all I can say is that was not my experience at all!!! It this had happened in the States I would either have been sent home to suffer because insurance would not have covered the stay I needed or I would now be in danger of loosing my house.

What bull****!!  I had to go to the ER in California about a year ago because I forgot my prescriptions at home.  It was the dirtiest healthcare facility I have ever seen and it cost my "out of country" insurance provider $3800 for about 3 minutes of a doctor's time!!

"Capitalism is what drives better technology."

Capitalism drives cases like what were posted earlier - a 415 pound man who wasn't qualified for WLS and ends up dying of a heart attack because a profit-driven insurance company can't see past their own nose.

"It is like stepping back a hundred years."

Yeah, we have clinics like that in the US, too - just like China and England also have some stellar offices.
