I made it home from the hospital today.

I left the U of C and went to a specialty rehab hospital, which I just left, because the care there sucked too (i must have bad luck)

I want to say THANK YOU TO EVERYONE, for all the swinging critters and keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.

By gods grace I'm alive and walking right now.

I'd like to share my story but don't want to scare anyone away from the DS.

I love you guys!!

Leslie! I'm so glad to hear from you, and I'm happy you're home. What an experience you've been through.

Please don't feel like you can't share anything you want to talk about. We are here to support you through all of this, good and bad. Newbies and pre-ops should have a healthy respect for all of the potential complications that can come with major surgery.

How are you feeling?

Well, I'm feeling pretty good right now.

I look back at the first 5 and 6 days after surgery.... i thought I was going to die...there was a point i wanted to die.. the pain was so bad..

my complication is RARE... for all the pre-ops out there.

I was just about to stand with assistance on Wednesday. I was able to take a few steps with assistance on Thursday, and walk super short distances Friday.

Rhabdomyolysis is no joke.  Apparantly, because my surgery was 5 hours, i experienced a crushing incident, bascially my body crushed itself. Embarrassing I know.

Prachand has done people twice my weight and no complications, so I'm just really lucky,.. or unlucky rather.

I can wobbly walk now, push myself upstairs using rails, and get up from most chairs. I also have muscle loss in my arms. so typing this is kind of difficult.

I'm taking baby steps

Just out of curiosity - were you taking statins before surgery, and did you quit them beforehand?  It is a risk factor for rhabdomyolysis.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hey you!!! ***BIG HUGE HUGS**** I'm so glad you're coming along! Yup, this kind of complication can happen with ANY surgery, and not just on a morbidly obese person. It is NOT DS specific, and not limited exclusively to MO folks. (Figured that was worth saying twice.)

I'm so sorry you got crappy care and especially, crappy pain management. This all just sucks rocks. But here's hoping you've turned the corner and will get more mobile every day from here.
