Anyone with federal insurance?
on 7/23/10 9:32 am
My hubby just started with the feds 7/5. We went with Aetna, but will likely switch to BC/BS if he decides to have the DS (because the requirements are easier to meet--no diet). Anyways, like I mentioned he started 7/5, insurance became effective this past Sunday (has to do with when you make the election and then it take effect beginning with the next pay period).
Thank you all soooooooo much for all of your help!!
The insurance lady at my (hopefully) surgeon's office called me today and said that Tricare had denied my claim. Which I already knew they would and I'm really surprised they bothered submitting it.
Anywho, I'm glad she called me because I hadn't planned on calling her until the new insurance (again HOPEFULLY) went into effect and I would have wasted a lot of time. She looked it up and said that BCBS Fed does cover DS and has very few requirements and that I could probably submit my request the way it is now and get it approved. She said that your residing state does handle the federal insurance plan, but the federal plan policy is what they go by.
BTW Becky, she said that BCBS does require that not only your hospital be a Blue Center of Excellence but your surgeon's practice as well.
She told me that as soon as I know what date my insurance will be in effect to let her know and she'll have it ready to go that very morning. Apparently BCBS Fed doesn't fax the approval/denial forms and uses snail mail instead, but we should get the approval back in about a week. In the meantime, as soon as I have the program fee I can start on the rest of the surgeon's requirements (education class, preop bloodwork, NUT appointment) and be ready to go as soon as I finish those. The surgeon is scheduled about a month out, and the education class is 4 weeks before surgery. I was thinking about Nov or Dec but I could pu**** off until Jan if I needed to but REALLY really want to have it over and done with before my DH deploys. Things seem like they'll move along pretty quickly so I'm more hopeful than ever I may actually get to have the surgery!!!
Now, we're just waiting on the word that DH officially got the new job (the HR manager is on vacation this week ACK!) but he's only waiting on his physical and we should know sometime next week.
Again, thank you all so much!
