Ok, so I am wondering if the 15/45 minute rule is followed by my fellow DSer's.....I know why the rule is in place according to my NUT, but has anyone found that it doesn't make a difference?

Ok, Newbie here, what is the 15/45 minute rule?  Sorry if this is a stupid question! LOL.

I have no idea what that is either. My guess is that it is some RNY rule as those poor RNYers have more rules than anybody should ever have.

But I'm waiting to see.

You are supposed to stop drinking 15 minutes before eating and for 45 minutes after eating.  Supposedly when you drink with your meal it will push the food through faster therefore making you hungry sooner, so you eat again when you're not really hungry.

That's an RNY rule since they have nothing to keep the food in. We have a fully functional stomach with the pylorus intact.

Wag more, bark less.

RNY here. Never heard that one. The things non-pouch people think of! We had a doc saying 1.5 hrs before AND after, so 3 hrs. And wanting us to eat 6 small meals. So, uh, no liquids for 18 hours? And we were sposta get in 72 oz WHEN, exactly?

My rule was drink up to the first bite (comfortably), and on paper, 1 hr after. "whispering to us, 15 minutes after is ok" and I find that to be true. As long as I don't drink WITH my meal, 15 after is good. Can't really drink immediately after, but if I'm hydrated before, no big deal. Tidying up dishes/kitchen, then can sit back down with my beverage.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I'm sorry,  This rule is bull****!  Even on day one I had small sips with my meals.  And in regards to "it will push the food through faster therefore making you hungry sooner"  If you're hungry, GOOD.  Eat some more protein.  This is the DS, duh.

Sounds like an RNY thing.  I don't know of any DSers that do that.

Nope. My surgeon's office recommends that we wait 30 minutes before and an hour after eating! I wrote it off as an RNY rule, one that if I followed, would prevent me from getting in sufficient fluids and protein.

I have been drinking with my meals all along, no troubles.

Same surgeon's office that writes Rxs for oil-based vitamins?  lol

He must be a good cutter...he has a lot of surviving patients right here.  But I wonder how the patients who DON'T find their way here are doing.
