Final Update On Kathy34715 R.I.P.
My sincere condolences to you and to Kathy's family. What a horrible thing to happen, especially due to a shockingly unnecessary mistake.
Just to clarify, Hoddinott was her surgeon. You can see the comments we gave Kathy about him on this thread: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/4138247/Update/#3380301 1.

Diane, I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Heartbreaking.
If anyone in this group gets mad at you over your post **** them. This sucks. ****ty docs and practices should be called out.
I looked back at the threads and this group, including myself, put out some subtle red flags about that Florida practice in the last two months. I know Kathy read those threads, but she just really wanted to stay local and put her faith in her doc, which is ultimately what we all do.
I hope others who come along later will learn from Kathy's story and listen carefully when people here talk about surgeons. The word isn't gospel, but it sometimes means more diligent investigation is required. There is only so much someone can say without libeling or slandering someone. Some reading between the lines is necessary.
Kathy was fortunate to have you as her angel. I once had one of my angelettes pass away. My heart is still broken. He died of a heart attack days after his DS. He passed all of his surgical clearances, but he was very high-risk (had previous heart attacks) and was surely going to die without the DS. I still can cry if I stop to think about him and all that he went through to get his DS, and how hopeful he was that it would save his life. Some days, I just let myself cry about him. And he went with one of the very best DS surgeons out there. Deaths do happen, unfortunately.
I am sending out a hug to you and some good vibes for Kathy and her other friends.
Take care,
Nicolle
