An Indiana court has ruled that a pizza shop must pay for a 340-pound employee's weight-loss surgery to ensure the success of another operation for a back injury he suffered at work ...

Finally a court does the right thing....IMHO

And how exactly is that right. Why is the employer ordered to pay for a condition that is ONLY the employee's fault. I think the way it should have happened is the court ordered the employer to put the money for the work injury into an account and have a 3rd party administer that account for the employee. When the employee loses the weight to ensure the surgery outcome is garunteed then the 3rd party pays from the account.

I've never heard of a company directly being required to pay for surgical procedures. That seems more of an insurance area. I imagine someone could (and likely has) sued to have a business accomodate their size in order for them to be able to perform their job.

My mom was living in Colombia (South America) and there the government has passed a law that all insurance must pay for WLS. If a person's insurance tries to deny coverage, a person can pay about $60 to take them to court and the judge will basically always rule for coverage due to the law. Usually they will also grant coverage for a tummy tuck once the weight is lost. My mom got the mini-GB before she moved back to the US.
